Although pools and water parks are a great way for little ones to stay cool at the Walt Disney World Resort. Sometimes, you just need to take a break at one of the kids’ water play areas at Disney World. These charming areas offer slides, water spouts, fountains and spillover buckets that often reflect a fun theme inspired by a Disney film or resort.
Here are just five of our favorite water play areas at Disney World:
Casey Jr.’s Splash N Soak Station at Magic Kingdom Park – The Casey Jr. train from “Dumbo” has pulled into town and its animal passengers are ready to cool off. Here, kids can take a break from the heat and get squirted by elephant trunks and other circus animals.
“Alice In Wonderland” Water Play Area at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa – One of the newer kids water play areas, this “Alice In Wonderland”-themed area debuted at the resort last fall. Here, water overflows from teacups and the Mad Hatter’s hat. Kids can also enjoy small water slides or squirt one another with small water hoses.
Uwanja Camp at Samawati Springs Pool, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village – This water play area is themed after an animal observation site and offers a chance to cool off with leaky buckets, water cannons, a slide and more.
Shipwreck at the Fuentes del Morro Pool, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort – This shipwreck-themed splash area lets kids have fun on a “sinking” ship that’s complete with mini slides, leaky sails, buckets, and a crow’s nest.
Luna Park Pool, Disney’s BoardWalk Inn – The carnival-themed Luna Park Pool offers the Keister Coaster water slide, and a chance for kids to cool off under the spouting trunks of grinning elephant statues. Children can even splash about in their own kiddie pool.

What are some of your favorite Disney Parks recipes?
“Grim Grinning Ghosts,” the theme of The Haunted Mansion, is both merry and spooky at the same time, and is perfectly fitting for one of our guest-favorite attractions. Of all the Disney Parks attractions with catchy theme songs, we can probably agree that we don’t mind when this one gets stuck in our heads.
In honor of The Haunted Mansion’s 50th anniversary at Disneyland which was celebrated last August, here are 10 fun facts about Grim Grinning Ghosts the Haunted Mansion:
The success of the catchy theme song, “Yo Ho Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life For Me),” at Pirates of the Caribbeanspurred interest in creating a similarly compelling tune for the (then under-construction) Haunted Mansion attraction. Without “Pirates” we may never have had “Ghosts!”
“Grim Grinning Ghosts” composers Buddy Baker and X. Atencio were proven to be Disney songwriting successes when put on the project. Atencio had penned lyrics to the song “Yo Ho Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life For Me)”, while Baker’s theme park contributions included scoring Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and theCarousel of Progress.
Thurl’s quartet, The Mellomen, also contributed harmony to “Grim Grinning Ghosts.” The group had previously lent their voices to “Alice In Wonderland,” “Peter Pan” and “The Jungle Book.”
The arrangement of the tune progresses throughout the attraction, starting off on an eerie piano in the library and funeral scenes, then bolder as organ music in the dining room and a whooping party in the graveyard scene.
“Grim Grinning Ghosts” hits a high note in the graveyard scene, where a set of singing busts await “to shriek and harmonize.” Did you know that each of these busts has a name? They are: Rollo Rumkin, Uncle Theodore, Cousin Algernon, Ned Nub and Phineas P. Pock.
The face of singer Thurl Ravenscroft appears on one of the singing busts – Uncle Theodore, which you can identify at Magic Kingdom Park attraction as the “broken” bust.
Buddy Baker, X. Atencio and Thurl Ravenscroft have all been named Disney Legends in years past for their contributions to Disney Parks and films.
The pop band Barenaked Ladies did a cover of “Grim-Grinning Ghosts” in 2003 for the film “The Haunted Mansion” which starred Eddie Murphy.
A reference to a “Grim Grinning Ghost” (note “ghost” is singular, not plural) appears in the William Shakespeare poem “Venus and Adonis” which was completed in 1593.

Add flour and cook, stirring constantly, for about 4 minutes over medium heat. Whisk in chicken stock and bring to boil for 1 minute. Reduce heat to simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add milk and continue to simmer for 15 minutes. Do not boil after milk is added.
Remove from heat and add cheese, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Blend with immersion blender until cheese is melted and soup is smooth. Stir in warm beer. If the soup is too thick, thin with some warm milk.
Serve the soup hot, garnished with chopped scallions or chives.

3 tablespoons instant chocolate pudding mix

Edible sugar pearls

Place chocolate sandwich cookies in food processor and pulse until puréed.
Fold puréed cookies into pudding mix. Stir until fully mixed.

Tonga Toast from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Photo: Disney
Ingredients:
Sugar-Cinnamon
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Batter
4 large eggs
1 1/3 cup whole milk
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
Tonga Toast
1 quart canola oil, for frying
1 loaf sourdough bread (uncut, 12 inches long)
2 large bananas, peeled
Directions:
For Sugar-Cinnamon:
Mix sugar and cinnamon in medium bowl (large enough to roll toast) with a fork until thoroughly blended. Set aside.
For Batter:
Whip eggs in medium bowl (large enough to dip toast) until well beaten. Add milk, cinnamon, and sugar. Mix well and set aside.
For Tonga Toast:
Using caution, preheat oil to 350°F in a large pot or a deep fryer. (If using a large pot, use a candy thermometer to make certain the oil does not get any hotter or it will burn.)
Slice the bread into four three-inch-thick slices.
Cut each banana in half crosswise, then each piece lengthwise.
Place a bread slice flat on the counter and tear out just enough from the middle (do not tear all the way through) to stuff half a banana into; repeat with each bread slice.
Dip stuffed bread into batter, covering both sides, allowing excess batter to drip off bread and place carefully into hot oil.
Cook 4-5 minutes until golden brown. If needed, turn toast over after 2 minutes and cook for another 2 minutes on other side. Remove and drain excess oil.
Roll toast in cinnamon-sugar. Repeat for each piece of toast.

Does a Walt Disney World Resort vacation with a little one sound daunting and overwhelming? It doesn’t have to be! We’ve spent a lot of time at Disney with little ones and have learned that you can bring (or purchase) items that make traveling easier on everyone. We wanted to share with you some items that you can pack to make traveling to Disney World with a toddler as easy and stress free as possible! Plus, one of the best parts about traveling to Disney World with a toddler is that they are still FREE until their third birthday!
Reusable Straws: In an effort to be more environmentally conscious, Disney Parks (and Disney Cruise Line) no longer offer any plastic straws. Although they do have paper straws available, we have found them to be very difficult for little ones to use (and even not the greatest for adults when trying to drink a slushie or Starbucks). We love bringing reusable straws for both our kids and ourselves. We have had great luck with both metal straws and silicon straws with a handy portable case.
Water Bottle: Some locations (like Disney’s Animal Kingdom) do not have lids for their cups, either, so the reusable straw won’t help avoid spills. If you aren’t using a dining plan to receive a free resort refillable cup (that comes with a lid), then we recommend bringing a water bottle to the parks.
Sticky Notes: We have found with our kids that they are typically not a fan of the automatic flushing toilets. When little ones need a little time to sit without having to worry about the toilet flushing before they’re done, we recommend placing a sticky note over the sensor.
Autograph Book: At this age, many little ones love seeing and meeting Disney characters throughout the parks and resorts. Autograph books (or another item to autograph) can be a great way to keep little ones engaged and start their interaction with the characters. We love the traditional autograph books, Encyclopedia of Animated Characters, photo mats, and more.
Glow Sticks: You can save so much money by bringing glow sticks or light up toys with you. If your kids are up late enough to enjoy the nighttime spectaculars at the parks, there’s a good chance that their little eyes will be amazed by (and want to purchase) all of the light up items. We pick up some glow sticks and have enough to cover each night of the trip!
Packable Rain Coat: You (almost) never know when a rain shower can pop up in Florida! It can be a challenge to pack jackets and rain coats for everyone in the family and carry them around in the parks all day. We love our packable rain coats for days in the parks. They are much sturdier than ponchos so you don’t have to worry about tearing and also fit much better to keep you dry.
Snacks: My second child is one that is always on the move and needs to keep busy which has made traveling slightly more challenging than it was with my first. I have had to become a little more creative and found that snacks are a great way to occupy her while waiting. We can open a pack of Goldfish or M & M’s or Smarties or applesauce while riding a bus to the parks, waiting in line, or even flying on the airplane to keep her busy and content.
Tylenol or Motrin: Unfortunately, you never know when a little one can spike a fever. My daughter had been perfectly healthy on our vacation until the night of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party when she ended up with a 103 degree fever. First aid was wonderful and gave me one dose to take back with us, but I was thankful to have packed a travel size bottle to keep the fever down throughout the rest of our vacation, if necessary.
Wipes and Hand Sanitizer: I generally am not THAT bad about cleaning every surface my child touches, especially now that I have two kids, BUT I think that it’s never a bad idea to wipe down the airplane seat, tray table, and arm rests when your child is stuck there for hours. You may also find wipes handy when you find a dirty table at a quick service restaurant or when your little one spills in the stroller. We also love these hand sanitizer wipes!
What do you find most useful when traveling to Disney World with a toddler? Be sure to let us know!
Please note that this post does contain affiliate links so we may make a small commission if you decide to purchase any of these items. Thank you for your support!
