Early 2021 Disney Cruise

Disney Cruise Line has just announced their sailings for the beginning of 2021 so you can view departure ports and itineraries for an early 2021 Disney Cruise and even book your cruise beginning Thursday, October 3, 2019.

In early 2021, Disney Cruise Line plans to return to New Orleans, giving you even more opportunities to sail from the Crescent City with your family in early 2021. A limited-time engagement with cruises to the Bahamas and Caribbean, including visits to Disney’s private island paradise, Castaway Cay, highlight Disney Cruise Line’s early 2021 lineup of popular itineraries, while voyages will continue across the fleet to tropical destinations from Galveston, Texas; San Diego, California and both Miami and Port Canaveral, Florida.

The Disney Wonder Returns to New Orleans

On sailings from New Orleans, you can experience the flavors and flair of the Big Easy both onboard the Disney Wonder and ashore. The sounds and sights of New Orleans will come to life at Tiana’s Place restaurant, where your family is transported to an era of southern charm, spirited jazz and street party celebrations with live music and other surprises inspired by the Disney animated film “The Princess and the Frog.” Before or after your cruise, savor the city’s distinct cuisine, visit family-friendly museums and parks, and take in the sounds of world-renowned live jazz music.

The series of magical voyages from New Orleans kicks off in late January 2021 with a pair of four- and five-night cruises to the Western Caribbean. The five-night voyage includes a visit to Progreso, Mexico, a new port of call for Disney Cruise Line on the Yucatan Peninsula. This quaint town is filled with treasures for your family to explore together, from ancient Mayan ruins to hidden swimming holes filled with crystal-clear water.

Three seven-night sailings to the Bahamas with a stop at Castaway Cay, plus a 14-night Panama Canal cruise, round out the departures from the Crescent City in early 2021.

Popular Itineraries from Texas and California on the Disney Wonder

The Disney Wonder will also return to the popular home ports of Galveston and San Diego in early 2021. On sailings from Texas, you can enjoy the white-sand beaches of the Western Caribbean on a series of four- and six-night cruises to Grand Cayman and Cozumel. One seven-night departure will feature stops at Key West, Nassau and Castaway Cay.

Following the season in New Orleans, the Disney Wonder heads to the West Coast for a variety of sailings to Baja and the Mexican Riviera departing from San Diego. On cruises ranging from three to seven nights, your family can hunt for gold aboard a pirate ship in Cabo San Lucas, embark on an off-road adventure in Ensenada or sunbathe on glittering sand beaches.

Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island paradise in the tropical waters of the Bahamas, reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. In a setting of crystal-clear turquoise waters, powdery white-sand beaches and lush landscapes, the 1,000-acre island offers one-of-a-kind areas and activities for every member of the family. Top Five Tips for Sailing with Little Ones on Disney Cruise Line

From the Disney Parks Blog:

Photo: Disney Parks Blog

The thought of traveling with a little one can sometimes feel daunting, which is why so many parents with babies and toddlers choose a Disney cruise for their family’s vacation. Disney Cruise Line caters to all members of the family, and that includes even the youngest sailors.

If you’re setting sail with a child age 6 months to 3 years old, keep these tips for sailing with little ones on Disney Cruise Line in mind for smooth sailing during your family getaway…

Photo: Disney Parks Blog

1. Take advantage of all that’s included. Traveling with little ones on a Disney cruise is easier than ever with diaper disposal units, bottle warmers, bottle sterilizers, cribs, playpens and high chairs available complimentary for use during the voyage. Strollers are also available, but since there are a limited number, plan to bring your own – one that’s lightweight and foldable for ease of maneuvering and storing it on board. When you visit our private island, Castaway Cay, wagons are available at no charge to facilitate navigating the island’s sandy beaches with toddlers in tow. Most of these items are first-come, first-served, so be sure to add the request to your reservation before the cruise.

Photo: Disney Parks Blog

2. Reserve time in the nursery before you set sail. Inside “it’s a small world” nursery hosted by Huggies, trained counselors care for and entertain infants and toddlers up to age 3 with toys, books, videos, crafts and games. At the back of the nursery, a separate and serene room is reserved for naptime. The nursery offers some of the longest operating hours and some of the lowest hourly rates for baby and toddler care in the cruise industry, allowing you to enjoy time on your own. You can roam the ship “worry-free,” thanks to an onboard mobile phone service that allows counselors to contact you anytime and anywhere on the ship. And if you want to peek in on your child without disturbing him or her, you can glimpse into the nursery’s main play area through a one-way window.

3. Check the Navigator for special activities and play areas. Toddler Time is a scheduled playtime where parents can join the fun. You can also play with your little one at Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Lab during Open House. If you have a crawler, do not miss Jack-Jack’s Diaper Dash in the atrium. I repeat, do not miss it! And for water babies, each ship has a fanciful water playground exclusively for toddlers up to age 3—and their parents, of course!

4. Let us help you make mealtime easier. For babies, you can request fresh pureed vegetables and meat, both in the main dining rooms and through room service. When ordering off the kids’ menu, your server will be happy to cut up the food into bite-sized pieces for your little one. And when you’re grabbing a quick bite out on deck, ask a Crew Member to grab a highchair for you. These are just a few of the things you can do to take the stress out of mealtime for your whole family.

5. Don’t sweat it if you forget it. Essential baby supplies are available for purchase at the onboard merchandise shops, including diapers, training pants, rash cream, infant formula (ready to feed), bottles, pacifiers, baby food, baby shampoo, baby lotion and baby powder. We’ve got you covered!

11 Things to Do Before Your Disney Cruise Line Vacation

One of my favorite things about a Disney Cruise Line vacation is that it doesn’t require months and months of advance planning like a Walt Disney World Resort vacation. You don’t have to schedule your dining reservations 180 days in advance or any FastPasses 60 days in advance. A Disney cruise offers both a less stressful planning experience ahead of time and more relaxing vacation while you’re away enjoying your vacation. Although you don’t have to spend hours preparing for a Disney Cruise Line vacation, there are a few things that you can take care of in advance to make your vacation even better!

Here are 11 things to do before your Disney cruise:

  1. Online Check In: As soon as your booking window (determined by your Castaway Club status) opens, you should complete online check in. This provides Disney with all of your important information and in turn, allows you to choose how early you would like to arrive at the port. If you are not taking Disney transportation to the airport, this will get you on the ship as quickly as possible by choosing the earliest time available.
  2. Book Port Excursions: If you are planning to participate in any excursions during your cruise, you can book them in advance, as well. Some of the most popular excursions do fill up before the sailing so booking them as soon as your window opens insures the best availability for you to choose your favorite excursions. There’s also a desk onboard that can help you make changes or book excursions during your vacation, if necessary.
  3. Book Onboard Experiences: There aren’t too many activities that need to be booked in advance for a Disney cruise, but there are a couple character experiences (Frozen Meet and Greet and/or Princess Gathering), beverage tastings, Disney Junior character breakfast (for minimum seven night sailings), speciality dining, and spa treatments that can be reserved in advance. If you forget to book these in advance, they can be booked onboard as well, pending availability.
  4. Choose your Dining Time: Disney Cruise Line offers two dining times, either 5:45 pm or 8:!5 pm which also determines your evening show times and even breakfast on the last morning of your cruise. When you book your cruise, you will have the opportunity to choose (pending availability) your preferred dining time. If main dining is full, you can always waitlist it or even ask to change after you board if you are unable to secure it in advance.
  5. Schedule Character Call: You can schedule a complimentary pre-recorded character call from either Mickey Mouse, Goofy, or Mickey and Minnie. This is a fun way to either tell your kids about your upcoming vacation or get them even more excited to go!
  6. Passports: Although passports are not required for some cruises, they are still strongly recommended. If you’re planning to purchase a passport for your cruise, be sure to order it far enough in advance to avoid any rush fees. If you already have a passport, just double check to make sure that it will still be valid for your sailing (and preferably at least six months afterwards).
  7. Transfers: Whether you are purchasing Disney Cruise Line transfers, parking at the port, or purchasing private transfers, you will want to arrange in advance how you’ll be getting to and from the port.
  8. Join your Cruise group on Facebook: Almost every sailing has a group on Facebook where you can connect with fellow cruisers. The biggest advantage to joining these groups is if you’d like to participate in a fish extender (gift exchange) with your fellow passengers. It can also be nice to find fellow cruisers with kids around the same age, if you have any that are apprehensive about going to the kids clubs onboard.
  9. Download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App: You will want to download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app before you board the ship, if possible. Disney is eliminating the practice of leaving a paper copy of your Personal Navigator in your stateroom each evening so you’ll need to use the app to find out all of the activities planned onboard each day of your sailing. Plus, they have a fun countdown app that will help pass the time while you wait for your vacation.
  10. Prepay Gratuities: You can prepay your gratuities with your cruise fare so you won’t have to worry about them onboard. If you do not prepay your gratuities, Disney will automatically add them to your onboard account. It is nice to have them prepaid so you can only worry about spending money on souvenirs during your vacation.
  11. Purchase a Photo Package: If you’re interested in having any of the pictures taken onboard or at Castaway Cay, you will want to purchase a photo package in advance to take advantage of a pre-cruise discount. One big difference if you’re used to Disney PhotoPass photographers in the parks is that the cruise photographers are not able to take a picture on your device in addition to theirs.

Next, it’s time to start packing for your Disney cruise! What do you think are the most important things to do before your Disney cruise?

Even if you are a veteran cruiser, packing can still be tricky or intimidating…so we’ve compiled an all-inclusive list! It’s perfect for warm weather itineraries to the Caribbean or Bahamas, filled with all of your must-haves plus a few items for fun! Here are some of the essentials for your Disney cruise packing list:

Daytime Fun on the Ship

With everything from fun family pools to exclusive spaces for kids and adults alike, Disney cruises are jam-packed with activities for the whole family! Here are the important items you should consider bringing:

  • Swimsuits and cover ups – Pack at least two options to ensure you can spend as much time at the pool, in the hot tub or riding the AquaDuck as possible!
  • Shorts, shirts, tank tops and sundresses – You’ll be spending lots of time outside enjoying the sunshine, so pack accordingly for the warmer temps.
  • Athletic wear and gym shoes – There’s lots of ways to break a sweat on a Disney cruise! Bring clothes to play basketball on Goofy’s Sports Deck or to squeeze in a quick workout at the fitness center. The ocean view from the treadmill can’t be beat!

Evening Entertainment, Dining and Deck Parties

On your Disney cruise, the fun lasts all day! From family and adult-exclusive dining options to Broadway-style entertainment and high-energy deck parties, make sure you come prepared for a different experience each night:

  • “Cruise casual” dinner attire – Plan to dress “cruise casual” in our main family dining rooms, which means no tank tops or swimwear.
  • Dressy dining outfits – Bring dressier outfits for semi-formal and formal nights so you can take advantage of the onboard photography services. Those of you who plan to eat at Palo or Remy, be sure to dress to impress while you enjoy your adult-exclusive dinner! Men should pack dress pants and a collared shirt, while women should bring a dress, skirt or pants and a blouse. For more information, click here for dress codes at Palo and Remy.
  • Pirate attire – There’s no better place to become a pirate than IN the Caribbean! You’ can transform into pillaging pirates and become a part of the crew during “Pirate Night.” Your “pirate style” can include anything from pirate tee shirts and bandanas to eye patches, pirate hooks and even stuffed parrots!
  • Light sweater – Temperatures can be cooler in the dining room and theater or out on deck with the evening ocean breeze, so don’t forget to pack a light sweater or jacket, just in case.

Adventures Ashore

From exploring Mayan ruins in Mexico and ziplining through the trees in Jamaica during a Port Adventure, to lounging on the warm sand of a sun-drenched beach, there’s an exciting adventure ashore to fit everyone in your party!

When you visit Disney’s award-winning private island, Castaway Cay, everything you need for a perfect day is included, like an all-you-care-to-eat buffet lunch, beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, hammocks and more … but you can still pack a few extra items to make the most of your day!

No matter what shore excursions you experience, here are a few helpful packing tips to prepare:

  • Backpack or collapsible tote bag – This will come in handy for carrying your personal items, as well as toting souvenirs you may buy in port. Considering throwing in some plastic zip-top bags as well in case your belongings get wet during your time ashore.
  • Lightweight pants, capris or leggings – Shorts and a t-shirt are great for many shore excursions like historical village tours or sightseeing at the ruins…but more active experiences like hiking, climbing or ziplining will be more comfortable with pants.
  • GoPro or underwater camera – There’s a lot to see and photograph under the water (including some hidden Mickeys at Castaway Cay) so make sure you have a way to capture it all!
  • Appropriate shoes – Prepare to be on your feet! Bring comfortable walking shoes for sightseeing, sneakers for hiking or biking activities and flip flops or water shoes for a day at the beach.

Just for Fun!

There are lots of small ways to enhance your Disney cruise experience! Consider packing these fun items as you prepare to come aboard:

  • Door magnets for your stateroom – Unique decorations will always bring a smile to your face as you return to your room, and it helps families distinguish their door as they head down long hallways. You can bring your own fun magnets, or buy them onboard.
  • Pajamas – Make sure your kids have at least one pair they are comfortable walking around the ship in. They won’t want to miss pajama parties at the kids clubs or on the last night of your sailing!
  • Autograph book – Never miss an opportunity to grab a special moment with your favorite Disney characters…and commemorate it with autographs! Disney Cruise Line autograph books are also sold onboard the ship.
