Update on Construction at Disney’s Polynesian Resort

If you have visited the Walt Disney World Resort in the last few months, you may have noticed the construction at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Until recently, Disney has kept their exact plans for the resort pretty secretive. However, they have finally announced some of the exciting changes and enhancements coming to Disney’s Polynesian Resort!

The first change you will see at Disney’s Polynesian Resort is the name! The name of the resort will return to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, which was the original name when the resort first opened on October 1, 1971.

The resort will also be home to a brand new children’s activity center, Club Disney. At Club Disney, children can play dress up, make crafts, and participate in storytelling experiences. Children are supervised by Disney cast members while their parents enjoy an evening to themselves. Club Disney was inspired by classic Disney Little Golden Books such as “Alice in Wonderland,” “Pinocchio,” and “Lady and the Tramp.”

A Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, similar to the one found at the Disneyland Hotel in California, is also planned for the resort. Trader Sam’s is set to open at the resort in 2015. There will be another new food and beverage location at the resort, Pineapple Lanai kiosk, where guests can enjoy a favorite treat – Dole Whip. Pineapple Lanai kiosk will open later this year.

The resort’s lobby will also (controversially) have the waterfall removed to create a more open, inviting space. You can see an image of the plans for the lobby below.

Additionally, the resort’s feature pool, the Nanea Volcano pool, is currently being refurbished and expanding to include a new aquatic playground with slides for children, a new hot tub, and a larger deck with more seating for guests.
