“A very merry un-birthday to you!” Guests from around the world celebrate birthdays (and un-birthdays) every day at the Disneyland Resort. Here are five magical ways to celebrate a birthday at Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth:
1. Start Early. Staying at one of the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort? Kick off the festivities from the moment you arrive at the hotel with in-room celebration goodies. Available gift baskets include a colorful birthday-themed pair of Disney Ear Hats to wear throughout your visit.

2. Snag Souvenirs. Take a magical memory of your birthday trip home with you. Complimentary “Happy Birthday” and other celebratory buttons are available at City Hall in Disneyland park or Guest Services in Disney California Adventure park.* In addition, autograph books are an excellent way to request and collect special birthday messages from your favorite characters. *Valid theme park admission is required.
3. Dine with Friends. For a magical dining experience, book a dining reservation with a few of your favorite friends. For breakfast, enjoy your morning meal in the company of Disney characters at Plaza Inn in Disneyland park, Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, or PCH Grill at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel serves up playfully fun food and character encounters for breakfast and dinner.
4. Make a Wish. What’s a birthday without a cake? Order a custom birthday cake for delivery to select table service restaurants around the resort. Once you choose your favorite theme, place your order in advance and enjoy! Disneyland Resort Hotel guests can also have cakes delivered to their rooms.

5. Sing Along. Head over to Mad Tea Party in Disneyland park to take a spin on the tea cups and sing along to “A Very Merry Un-Birthday.” For continued musical fun, meet the Jambalaya Jazz Band in New Orleans Square and request a performance of “Happy Birthday” in addition to their catchy American classics.
Have you celebrated your birthday at Disneyland Resort?
Journey via motorcar to “Nowhere in Particular” on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disneyland park. One of the original 1955 Opening Day “dark ride” attractions in Fantasyland, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is unique to Disneyland Resort.
The attraction takes guests on a wild speed race through the English countryside, wreaking havoc on the town along the way. We love a good joyride as much as the next toad, but the attraction moves quite quickly, racing past some of the finer details. So, let’s look at some of the easily missed hidden humor and subtle British influence on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.
(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)
Approaching the grand manor known as Toad Hall, the home of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, the English influence is unmistakable. A 19th century-inspired English weathervane tops one of the gables, and just above the entrance stands a stone statue of a dapper Mr. Toad himself, elegantly holding a cup of tea.
(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)
The motorcars themselves feature the names of various characters from the “Wind in the Willows” segment of the 1949 Disney feature film that inspired the attraction, “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.” Fittingly, the steering wheels are placed on the right side of the vehicle as they would be in England. Motorcar names include: Mr. Toad, MacBadger, Moley, Ratty, Weasel, Winky and Cyril.

As guests dash through the wharf scene, look out for the famous Tower Bridge, an iconic London landmark. Careful observers can even spot the tiny lights of vehicles moving across.
(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)
The next room, the village square, contains two important details. First, in an upstairs window, the distinctive silhouette of Sherlock Holmes is faintly visible, a subtle ode to the British detective. Second, in an alcove to the right of the window stands a statue of a woman representing justice, holding a sword in one hand and scales in the other. The statue humorously foreshadows Mr. Toad’s fate at the end of the attraction and the impending consequences of his joyride.
(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)
Just around the corner, as the statue of justice predicted, a judge wearing traditional English jurisprudence robes and a curly gray wig hands down the sentence.

We hope you enjoyed this inside look into the wacky world of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and remember the motto emblazoned on Mr. Toad’s crest: Toadi Acceleratio Semper Absurda (A Speeding Toad is Always Absurd!)
Get ready for a patriotic spread of red, white, and blue treats that Sam Eagle would be proud to chow down on at both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts for Fourth of July 2019. DISNEYLAND CHURROS – CARTS AND KIOSKS
From seasonal flavors to the classic cinnamon sugar churro, these yummy, crunchy sticks are some of the best in town! You can find them at various carts and kiosks located throughout the park.
MICKEY PRETZEL, MICKEY BAR, POPCORN, TURKEY LEG, AND MORE – CARTS AND KIOSKS
You can never go wrong with a Mickey pretzel, a turkey leg, or even a Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar – all found at various carts and kiosks throughout the park. Or if popcorn is more your style, then you can find various popcorn carts throughout the park along with the CUTEST souvenir popcorn buckets to take home with you! And did I mention that all of our Disney Parks popcorn is vegan? How cool is that!
TIGGER TAILS, CANDY APPLES, AND MORE – HUNNY SPOT AND CANDY PALACE
Our Disneyland Candy Makers are always creating new sweets and treats like Tigger Tail marshmallow wands, candy apples, chocolate-covered pineapple slices, and their famous English Toffee. Check out Hunny Spot in Critter Country or the Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A. to grab some for yourself!
DOLE WHIP – TIKI JUICE BAR AND THE TROPICAL HIDEAWAY
One of our most popular offerings, Pineapple Dole Whip Soft-serve is the perfect treat for a warm day in the park. You can find this soft-serve snack at the Tiki Juice Bar in Adventureland, served in a cup or in a float with Dole Pineapple Juice. In addition, we also serve a few unique soft-serve flavors at The Tropical Hideaway near Jungle Cruise including pineapple and orange swirl, pineapple and raspberry swirl, or even a Loaded Whip served with pineapple and orange swirl, fruit, and crystallized hibiscus.
SKEWERS AND JUNGLE JULEP – BENGAL BARBECUE
Also located in Adventureland is Bengal Barbecue, where you can find a savory array of delicious Jungle Skewers. Chow down on chicken, beef, and pork skewers as well as a bacon-wrapped asparagus skewer and a vegetarian skewer with roasted seasonal vegetables. Pair your skewer with a refreshing Jungle Julep slush with pineapple, orange, grape, and lemon juices and you’ve got yourself a snack fit for a Jungle Cruise Skipper!
MICKEY-SHAPED BEIGNETS AND MINT JULEP – MINT JULEP BAR
If you’re looking for a Mickey-shaped snack that’s both SUPER delicious and SUPER photogenic, then the Mint Julep Bar is the place to be! Located in the heart of New Orleans Square, right next door to the French Market, this quick-service window serves up freshly-baked Mickey-shaped beignets dusted with a heaping helping of powdered sugar. Sometimes you might even find a seasonal beignet flavor like butterscotch or peppermint! And of course, you can’t take a trip to the Mint Julep Bar without trying the Mint Julep – a refreshing non-alcoholic mint drink with just a hint of lime that has been one of the park’s most popular drinks for many years.
MATTERHORN MACAROON – JOLLY HOLIDAY BAKERY CAFE
Inspired by the snow-capped mountain that towers above the park, the Matterhorn Macaroon can be found at Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe right off the end of Main Street, U.S.A. This yummy coconut cookie is one of my personal favorite snacks, and it also makes for an adorable pic when held up in front the Matterhorn Bobsleds.
CHEDDAR GARLIC BAGEL TWIST AND BOYSEN APPLE FREEZE – MAURICE’S TREATS
Another personal favorite of mine is the Cheddar Garlic Bagel Twist – a freshly-baked baguette-style snack that can be found at Maurice’s Treats, a small cart located across from the Royal Theatre in Fantasyland. You can also grab a Boysen Apple Freeze here for a refreshing slush treat!
THE GREY STUFF – RED ROSE TAVERNE
Try the Grey Stuff, it’s delicious! Located in Fantasyland, Red Rose Taverne offers casual fare with a French flair. It’s here where you can actually try the Grey Stuff from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” The Grey Stuff Gâteau is offered during lunch and dinner, and consists of white chocolate mousse with red velvet cake and a raspberry center.
POMMES FRITES AND MONTE CRISTO – CAFÉ ORLÉANS
Cafe Orleans is always a must for my trips to Disneyland Resort! This New Orleans Square table service eatery serves up a variety of French Quarter-inspired dishes, including the popular Pommes Frites and Monte Cristo. The Pommes Frites are a great way to start your meal off and come with traditional french fried potatoes tossed in Parmesan, garlic, and parsley served with Cajun Spice Rémoulade. And for your entrée, you just HAVE to try the Monte Cristo Sandwich – sliced ham, turkey, and Swiss fried in a light, fluffy batter, dusted with powdered sugar and served with berry purée. You can also try a Three-Cheese Monte Cristo (my personal fav) with Swiss, mozzarella, and double crème brie. And if you’re wanting to get your fix of a Mint Julep and Mickey Beignet, you can find them on the menu here as well!
MICKEY WAFFLES, FRIED PICKLES, AND MORE – CARNATION CAFÉ
Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and located in the center of Main Street, U.S.A., Carnation Café has a wide variety of classic American dishes with something for everyone. For breakfast, this is the place to order the popular Mickey waffle! This large Mickey-shaped waffle comes topped with your choice apples or strawberries and served with hickory-smoked bacon or sausage links. And for lunch and dinner, you can dine on some crunchy Fried Pickles (dill pickle spears dipped in Parmesan and panko, fried golden brown, and served with a house-made sauce), Baked Potato Soup, or even Walt’s Chili – a hearty chili topped with cheese, sour cream, and fresh tomatoes that was one of Walt Disney’s favorite dishes.
FRIED CHICKEN, CHARACTER BREAKFAST, AND DINING PACKAGES WITH SPECIAL PARADE VIEWING – PLAZA INN
You haven’t had fried chicken until you’ve had the fried chicken at Plaza Inn. These hearty pieces of chicken are fried to a crisp and served up with savory helpings of mashed potatoes, buttermilk biscuits, and seasonal vegetables. In addition, if you’re looking for a dining fun dining experience to enhance your day at the park, this restaurant offers a lively character breakfast as well as special dining packages where you can enjoy special reserved viewing for the daily parade.

SIGNATURE EVENTS The festival’s signature events are also experiences worth checking out! One of my favorites is Sweet Sundays, which is returning this year. This popular event makes for a sweet start to your day, allowing you to join a celebrity pastry chef for an entertaining dessert-centric demonstration, an interview with the chef, and a light brunch buffet featuring one of the chef’s dishes! If you’ve ever wanted to hone your pastry and baking techniques and indulge in yummy desserts, this is definitely the event for you. This event occurs on select Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Palisades Stage in Paradise Gardens Park for the duration of the festival, and space is limited, so be sure to make your reservations today!
March 10 – Jean-Marc Viallet, Disneyland Resort Executive Pastry Chef
March 24 – Matt Lewis, Baked NY and Tokyo, Baked: New Frontiers in Baking
April 7 – Emily Ellyn, Food Network Star and Cutthroat Kitchen
April 21 – Keegan Gerard, Food Network Challenge
Another exciting event is the Dinner with the Disney Chefs. This sumptuous dinner is on Thursday, March 28, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the Vineyard Room at Wine Country Trattoria. Here, you’ll get to meet the Disneyland Resort chefs and sommeliers featured in the new Disney Festivals Cookbook, all while enjoying a four-course dinner with dishes inspired by the festival recipes and paired with hand-selected wines and cocktails. This event is a great way to enhance your Food & Wine Festival experience.

That’s right, Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill has officially reopened at the Disneyland Hotelat the Disneyland Resort! After an exciting refurbishment, the fast-casual restaurant has a vibrant new look, expanded offerings and is back and serving up made-to-order dishes, signature tiki cocktails, Dole Whip and more!
Tangaroa Terrace, inspired by Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, is the perfect tropical complement to the mid-century modern architecture of the Disneyland Hotel. This island paradise combines traditional motifs from many Pacific islands such as Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji, Sumatra and New Guinea. Inside, new décor details feature a colorful tropical mural with “hidden” tiki room birds (can you find them all?), bamboo accents, exotic stone countertops and glass fish net float lights, with open air views of the pool. Outdoors, guests enjoy an expanded new patio with brightly colored rattan lounge chairs, tiki bar stools and a communal table for fun, inviting ways to enjoy sunshine and the island vibes.
Throughout the day, guests can snack on freshly prepared hot and cold dishes all day long. For breakfast (served until 11am), chow down on a classic Breakfast Platter with scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns or bite into a Breakfast Sandwich with kālua-style pulled pork, fried egg, hash browns, and gravy. Sweet options include the Açai Chia Breakfast Bowl with seasonal fruit and granola and Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes. One of my FAVORITE breakfast dishes of all time can also be found here – Tangaroa Toast! This brick toast comes coated in cinnamon sugar, and topped with bananas Foster, whipped cream, bananas, and toasted coconut.
If your mouth is watering from the breakfast menu, just wait until you feast your eyes (and taste buds) on the lunch and dinner menu! Sharable options include dishes such as the Kālua-style Poutine (crispy crinkle fries topped with pork, cheese curds, gravy, pickled onions, and Fresno chiles – YUM) and the Pu Pu Platter, which is another one of my favorites! The platter comes with Chili-Garlic Edamame, Pork Gyoza (pork and vegetable pot stickers), Sweet-and-Spicy Chicken Wings, and Panko-crusted Long Beans served with togarashi aïoli; all four can also be ordered individually. And if nachos are more your style, you can snack on the Shipwreck Nachos topped with kālua-style pulled pork, pineapple salsa, hoisin sauce, togarashi aïoli, and barbecue sauce.
And of course, you can’t go wrong with the Chili-Garlic Edamame (it’s included in the Pu Pu Platter, but you know you’re going to want more!) – young soybeans steamed and tossed with chili-garlic sauce – or even the Fried Spam Musubi served with teriyaki sauce!
Other dishes include a Lentil Garden Bowl with brown rice, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and onions tossed in coconut curry; the Tangaroa Salad with sautéed shrimp; and an Angus 1/3 lb. Hawaiian Cheeseburger served with grilled pineapple, Applewood-smoked bacon, Havarti cheese, togarashi aïoli, and teriyaki sauce.
Kids can enjoy their own smaller-portioned versions of these tropical bites. For breakfast, the Kid’s Breakfast Platter and the Kid’s Pineapple Upside-Down Pancake are great options. They can even get the Kid’s Mickey-shaped Tangaroa Toast! All three dishes are served with turkey bacon and fresh fruit. For lunch and dinner, the kiddos can munch on a yummy Grilled Salmon Bowl, a Kid’s Cheeseburger, and the ever-so-popular and tasty Chicken Breast Nuggets.
The restaurant also offers a newly-enhanced marketplace for grab-and-go pastries and snacks, specialty coffees, pineapple Dole Whip soft serve, Dole Whip floats and Dole Whip floats with a splash of rum, plus a full bar of island cocktails. Mobile ordering is available at this location as well, so if you’re on-the-go, you can enjoy the convenience of ordering and paying for your meal via the Disneyland Resort app without having to wait in line! How cool is that?
Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill is located in the Disneyland Hotel adjacent to Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar and the pool area! For more information as well as the full menu, visit the Disneyland Resort website, or come on out and experience it for yourself!
