Best Disney World Rides for Toddlers (and Shows, too!)

Although some families wait to take their children to Disney World until they are “old enough to remember,” we think you can make some pretty magical memories with little ones. Even if your toddler may not remember the trip, your photos and memories will be priceless. We hear a lot of concerns about what little ones can actually do and enjoy in the parks. So, we have compiled a list of the best Disney World rides for toddlers that we hope will help ease any concerns about traveling with a little one.

Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom truly has something for visitors of all ages. Many rides don’t have a minimum height restriction which means you can all ride together. There are, by far, the most attractions for toddlers to enjoy in the Magic Kingdom.

In Tomorrowland, your toddlers will love Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Astro Orbiter, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover, and the Tomorrowland Speedway, where they can actually drive mom and dad around!

Back in Fantasyland, you can’t miss Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Peter Pan’s Flight, Enchanted Tales with Belle, “it’s a small world,” Mad Tea Party, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, and Mickey’s PhilharMagic. The Barnstormer is a great “first roller coaster” and has a height requirement of just 35 inches. Your kids can also cool off at Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station.

Back in Adventureland, the whole family can see the eighth wonder of the world, the back side of water, on The Jungle Cruise. You can also spin around Adventureland on The Magic Carpets of Aladdin- just watch out for the spitting camel! If you’re all comfortable with heights, you can explore the Swiss Family Treehouse. Take a boat ride over to climb around and explore Tom Sawyer Island, too.

There are still even more attractions that your toddler may enjoy at Magic Kingdom that we haven’t mentioned!

Epcot

Although Epcot isn’t often thought of for families traveling with little ones, I’d argue that there is still plenty for little ones to enjoy. Your “Frozen” fans can’t miss Frozen Ever After in the Norway pavilion, starring Anna and Elsa. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet Anna and Elsa in the Norway pavilion. Enjoy a quiet boat ride through Mexico on the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros, which often has very short wait times.

Your family can ride in a “clamobile” on The Seas with Nemo and Friends where you help find Nemo (again) under the sea. At the end of The Seas with Nemo and Friends, you can explore the incredible aquariums or stop by Turtle Talk with Crush. Spaceship Earth can be a quiet and slow-moving educational journey through human communication.

Living with the Land takes you inside some of the greenhouses where Disney grows fruits and vegetables they serve throughout the parks and resorts. You can “Journey into Imagination with Figment” to learn about the five senses. At the end of the ride, your kids can explore ImageWorks- the “What If” Labs, full of sensory activities and games that spark creativity.

The annual festivals often bring play grounds which are a great way to let them explore and burn some energy in a confined space. Kids of all ages are encouraged to participate in the Kidcot Fun Stops where they can draw, color and collect activity cards at every country throughout World Showcase.

Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios is so much fun for toddlers! My family’s favorite Disney World attraction is Toy Story Mania. No matter how young or young at heart, you can compete against your family on five carnival style games. Hollywood Studios’ newest attraction, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, is a fun adventure through a cartoon with Mickey and Minnie. Little ones at least 32 inches tall can spin around with the aliens from Toy Story on Alien Swirling Saucers. Slinky Dog Dash is a family friendly coaster with a height requirement of just 38 inches.

Your family can meet Disney Junior characters like Fancy Nancy, Vampirina, and Doc McStuffins in the Animation Courtyard or at Hollywood & Vine. There is also a Disney Junior Live on Stage show where your kids can dance and sing along with their Disney Junior friends. We also recommend Muppet*Vision 3D, the Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage show and Frozen Sing Along show. Little races won’t want to miss Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy.

Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom is Disney World’s largest theme park. Their attraction Kilimanjaro Safaris is big enough to fit the Magic Kingdom inside of it! On Kilimanjaro Safaris, you will feel like you have traveled to Africa where you can get within just feet of giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, lions, and more. The Na’vi River Journey in Pandora is a calm boat ride through the Pandora rainforest, similar to Magic Kingdom’s “it’s a small world.” TriceraTop Spin in Dinoland allows guests of all ages to ride in a dinosaur, similar to Magic Kingdom’s “Dumbo.” Your little one can even control your up and down motion in addition to your forward and backward motion. Don’t forget to ride the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and check out the Affection Section petting zoo, too.

Aside from rides, there are two incredible Broadway style shows at Animal Kingdom that the whole family can enjoy together. You may also want to check out the Maharajah Jungle Trek where you and your family can see some incredible animals like the Sumatran tigers. Little ones can burn some energy exploring The Boneyard, a dinosaur dig site.

If you’re traveling to Disney World with a little one, don’t forget to take advantage of the rider switch service for any rides that your little one either isn’t big enough for or ins’t comfortable trying.

Theme Parks

Be Our Guest at Magic Kingdom: My kids love Be Our Guest! There’s something special about dining inside of the Beast’s castle and exploring the West Wing, Ballroom, or Rose Gallery. Plus, your kids will receive a white chocolate “Chip” that they can paint with edible paint! It’s always a hit and great way to end your special meal.

Coral Reef at EPCOT: Did you know that you can dine in front of one of the largest aquariums in the United States? Epcot is home to one of the largest aquariums in the country and part of it is surrounded by a restaurant! You may even be able to get a guide to the variety of fish you’ll see in the tanks in front of you.

Sci Fi Dine In Theater at Hollywood Studios: You’ll take a step back in time to a 1950’s drive in movie theater at Sci Fi. Your kids will have the chance to eat inside of a car while they watch short scenes from old sci-fi movies. Your kids will probably also love their classic American menu featuring macaroni and cheese, a cheeseburger, chicken strips and more.

50’s Primetime Cafe at Hollywood Studios: This is another Hollywood Studios restaurant that will take you back in time to the 1950’s. Your kids will have a chance to see what kitchens and even black and white TV’s looked like in the 1950’s during their meal. This menu is full of comfort foods like macaroni and cheese, chicken strips and more. Just be sure to remember your manners and keep your elbows off the table!

Rainforest Cafe at Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Your kids will love feeling like they are venturing into the jungle at Rainforest Cafe. They can watch animatronic elephants, gorillas, birds and more while they eat dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets, quesadillas, mini hot dogs and more. Rainforest Cafe does have two locations at Disney World, one inside of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and another at Disney Springs.

Disney Springs

The Boathouse: You can enjoy both indoor and outdoor dining at The Boathouse with beautiful views all around. If you’re seated outside or along the windows, your kids may even spot an amphicar driving across Lake Buena Vista. If you choose to dine inside, you may even be lucky enough to eat inside of a boat!

T-Rex Cafe: If you have a dinosaur loving child, you can’t miss T-Rex Cafe. They can be surrounded by animatronic dinosaurs, including a fifteen foot T-Rex! You’ll even get to experience a meteor shower every 20 minutes. in the gift shop, your kids can dig for hidden dinosaur fossils or build their own stuffed dinosaur. If you’re looking for a sweet way to end your meal, don’t miss the Chocolate Extinction dessert.

Planet Hollywood: You can dine among the stars at Planet Hollywood. During your meal, your kids can watch music videos and even enjoy a sing along every now and then. Some of the tables even have TV’s inside of them. You can also check out a variety of movie memorabilia throughout four floors of the restaurant.

Walt Disney World Resort Hotels

Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge: Whispering Canyon has all you care to enjoy skillets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The servers are rather witty and interactive. You never know what might happen when you ask for a drink refill or ketchup with your meal. Although Whispering Canyon has toned down the antics they’ve always been known for, this is still a fun and interactive meal for kids of all ages.

Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas- Kidani Village: What could be a better view than watching giraffe, zebras or gazelle walk across the savanna during your dinner? You will enjoy some spectacular views of the sunset savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge during your meal here. Plus, if you’re looking for an educational experience, you may even be able to dine with an animal specialist.

What You Need to Pack in Your Disney World Park Bag

What will you need for a day at Disney World? What kinds of things should you pack for in your Disney World park bag for an enjoyable day? If you’ve never been to Disney World or maybe it’s been a while, you may be unsure what you’d like to carry with you. We have some suggestions as to what we recommend that you pack in your Disney World park bag for a magical day in the parks.

For Everyone

We think the following items are useful whether you are traveling alone, as a couple, or with a family.

Hand Sanitizer: Even before the pandemic, it has always been important to have a way to clean your hands on the go. There are a lot of people touching the same rides, queues, and more so you’ll want to keep your hands clean throughout the day and before meals. We recommend bringing some travel size hand sanitizer. We especially love these alcohol free hand sanitizer wipes for kids.

Sunscreen: It’s sunny almost year round in Florida! Even if you are traveling in the winter, there’s a good chance that you’ll enjoy some sunny days and will still want to have some sunscreen to apply throughout the day. It’s MUCH cheaper to bring with you than to have to purchase it from a gift shop in the parks.

Portable Phone Charger: Between taking pictures and videos of your magical memories and checking and making dining reservations and FastPass+ selections in your My Disney Experience account, there’s a good chance that your phone battery won’t last all day in the parks. We recommend a portable phone charger to keep your phone charged throughout your day. I’ve heard great things about this Anker portable charger.

Sunglasses:

Water Bottle: You can always ask for a free cup of ice water at any quick service dining location, but in the heat, it can be nice to have your own water bottle to carry with you and refill throughout the parks. If you’re sensitive to the taste of Florida tap water, you may want to bring a drink flavoring. We love collapsible water bottles to save space in your bag when not in use.

Gum: Did you know that you cannot purchase gum at Disney World? It’s true! If you want to enjoy a piece of gum during your visit, you’ll have to bring some with you! We recommend ordering a multipack from Amazon so you won’t run out.

First Aid Kit: From blisters from uncomfortable shoes to scrapes, you never know when you may need a band-aid or even some Neosporin. These Johnson & Johnson Mini First Aid Kits are the perfect size to toss in your bag and go!

Mickey (or Minnie) Ears: Is any park outfit complete without “ears?” There are SO many to choose from! You can show off your style, favorite characters, and more designs. We love these navy blue ears with pink polka dots or you’ll never go wrong with the classic Mickey ears hat. You can even order an inexpensive 3-pack of Minnie ears.

Ziploc Bags: Ziploc bags can prove useful in the parks for a number of reasons! If you have a quick rain shower and end up with wet clothes, have leftover snacks without a resealable container, or a little one with an accident, you may be thankful for carrying a few Ziploc bags in your Disney World park bag.

Lanyards: If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you’ll receive a complimentary magic band with your reservation so you don’t have to worry about carrying a hard card ticket, but you may want to try pin trading. How cute is this Mickey Mouse lanyard or this Star Wars lanyard?

Additional Items When Traveling with Kids

We think the following items are helpful to have in your park bag when you’re traveling with kids.

Mickey Mouse Stroller Hook: Regardless of the size of your stroller, it can be helpful to have an extra place to hang things. We love this Mickey Mouse stroller hook from Petunia Pickle Bottom for hanging jackets, bags, and even the resort refillable drink mugs.

Stroller Tag: If you’ve been to the parks before, then you probably know how many strollers are in the stroller parking areas. With all those strollers so close together, it can be difficult to quickly and easily find yours (especially since cast members often move them so there aren’t open spaces). A fun activity before you go would be to make a sign to hang on your stroller. If you aren’t very crafty or are short on time, these rainbow pom poms can be great to hang on the handle.

Autograph Book (and Sharpie or pen): If you’re planning to meet any characters during your visit, you may want an autograph book for them to sign, especially during character meals. Some guests even like the Disney Junior Encyclopedia of Animated Characters so each character can sign their corresponding page. Don’t forget to bring a Sharpie or pen for the characters to use as many handlers don’t carry any for you.

Light Up Toys: Light up toys are SO popular in the parks! Kids love playing with these light up toys while they wait for nighttime spectaculars like Happily Ever After. This two pack of Mickey Mouse flashing wands are perfect to keep the Disney magic going. We also love this six pack of flashing Mickey Mouse necklaces or two pack of snowflake wands for any Frozen fan!

Bubble Wand: Bubble toys are another popular souvenir in the parks! These toys can set you back about $25 though so we always try to bring one with us. We love this coloring changing LED bubble wand for less than $15!

Glow Sticks: Glow sticks are a fun and inexpensive treat for the kids while you enjoy the parks at night. You can order a multi-pack of glow sticks so the kids can wear some (or even share with other kids) every night of your stay.

Reusable Straws: Disney Parks have removed plastic straws from the theme parks and resorts. They do offer paper straws at most locations, but these can be difficult for kids to use or even anyone enjoying a frozen beverage. You can bring these stainless steel straws or these collapsible silicone straws that come with a carrying case.

Additional Items When Traveling in the Summer

We think these items are extra useful when traveling in the summer or for our guests who are sensitive to the heat.

Cooling Towels: Cooling towels don’t take up a lot of space in your bag, but can really help keep you cool! These cooling towels use moisture from the towel to draw the sweat away from your skin and stay cool for up to 3 hours! You can order a four pack here.

Handheld Fan or Misting Spray Fan: A handheld fan or misting spray fan can come in handy while waiting for the Festival of Fantasy Parade in Magic Kingdom or just walking throughout the parks. Most of the spray fans are battery operated while many of the handheld fans can be charged with a USB port so you can even use your portable charger for your fan! 10 Activities and Ideas to Countdown to Disney Vacations

You’ve booked your family’s Disney World, Disneyland, or Disney Cruise Line vacation! Now what? How will you pass the coming weeks and months before your magical adventure? There are so many fun ways to countdown to Disney vacations! You can get the whole family involved to build excitement for your visit.

Take a Virtual Disney Vacation

We recently wrote a whole list of ideas about how you can take a virtual Disney vacation. Some kids like to be prepared to know what to expect so you can watch YouTube videos. We also love making Disney Parks treats at home when we can’t visit the parks in person.

Have a Very Merry Unbirthday Party or Tea Party

Start by watching “Alice in Wonderland” and then celebrate your un-birthday! Set the scene and decorate your table with these colorful flowers. For dessert, make these Cheshire Cat cupcakes or a Cheshire Cat cake roll. A fun activity for the kids is to make their own talking doorknob.

While you’re on the “Alice in Wonderland” theme, you can have a tea party! You can make your own edible tea cups out of ice cream cones. Disney Family even has a mad tea party mousse recipe. The kids can even make and decorate their own tea pots with this template.

Make and Decorate Mickey Cookies

What better way to get some quality time than to bake cookies? You can bake and decorate Disney cookies while you countdown to Disney! Get as creative as you can.

You can find an inexpensive five pack of Mickey Mouse cookie cutters or this 11 piece set including Mickey heads, glove, and more. Don’t forget fun sprinkles like these red, white and black Mickey sprinkles or these pink, purple and green Mickey sprinkles.

Make a Countdown Chain

A countdown chain can be both a fun visual for the kids as you count down the days until your vacation and a great activity to keep them busy! Depending on how early you begin your countdown to Disney, you can count down the number of weeks to go or the number of days to go. Or, make a combination of both! We have a PDF version of the countdown chain that you can print at the bottom.

Have a Disney Movie Marathon

There are so many attractions and shows inspired by Disney movies. Make some time to catch up on any you may have missed. Disney+ has a great selection or you can always order some relatively inexpensively from Amazon.

We recommend the animated classics for Magic Kingdom, Frozen for Epcot, Toy Story and the Star Wars trilogies for Hollywood Studios, and Avatar for Animal Kingdom, just to name a few.

Coloring Books

If you have little ones, you can pick up Disney coloring books from your local dollar store. They can color pictures of their favorite characters that they hope to meet during your vacation. We also love Crayola Color Wonder Mess Free Coloring for little ones, even to occupy them on the airplane.

For adults, there are some amazing Disney coloring books! Some of our favorites include Art of Coloring: Disney Animals, Art of Coloring: Disney Villains, Disney Dreams Collection from Thomas Kinkade Studios, Art of Coloring: Disney Princess, Art of Coloring: Mickey & Minnie and Art of Coloring: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Kingdom Keepers

A Twisted Tale

For adult readers, you could try the “A Twisted Tale” series. This series will “reintroduce fans to their favorite worlds and stories – with game-changing twists that have readers feverishly turning pages to follow their heroes and heroines into all-new adventures.”

Make Mickey or Minnie Ears

The Disney Family site has a ton of fun DIY projects to make your own pair of ears. For most of these, you’ll just need some felt, a headband, scissors, and glue. Some of our favorite projects include traditional Mickey and Minnie ears, Stitch ears, Yoda ears, and Marie ears.

Or, if you just want to decorate the ears, you can order a set of plain ears and add ribbons, sequins, and more. This will really help you show off your unique Disney style!

Host a Pirate Dinner

Prepare to ride Pirates of the Caribbean with a pirate night celebration. If you want to look the part, check out this Jack Sparrow Dress Up Kit or make your own eye patches.

For dessert, you can make cookies decorated with these skull and sword stencils. Or, make these adorable baby croc cupcakes.

If you are planning a surprise trip and looking for a big reveal, this would be a great way to do it! You can end the night with a treasure hunt. You can even print these Pirates of the Caribbean clue cards and map to add to the fun!

Planning Books

It can be fun to get the whole family involved in planning your Disney World vacation. You can read together about which attractions you just can’t miss. Celebrate Earth Day 2021 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

Earth Month is a great time to reflect on our personal relationship with our beautiful planet and how we can all care for the world we share. Whether it’s reducing your own ecological footprint, planting a tree, creating a butterfly garden or learning more about wildlife and conservation, all of these efforts unite us as we do our part to protect nature’s treasures. And while Disney theme parks celebrate all living things every day, during the annual Earth Day 2021 Celebration there’s an added opportunity for Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park guests to connect with the magic of nature through engaging activities designed to educate and inspire the whole family.

From April 18 to 24, 2021, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will host limited-time experiences including unique Disney character appearances, fun learning opportunities, specialty merchandise, themed food and beverage, a new Wilderness Explorer activity and more. Here’s a look at what’s in store to spark your curiosity about wildlife and inspire your own conservation efforts:

The Animation Experience at Conservation Station shows how Disney Artists bring favorite characters to life by using animals for inspiration. For the Earth Day Celebration and the month of April, you can learn to draw characters – including Dumbo, Terk, Squirt, Shere Khan, Simba and Scar – whose real-life counterparts represent amazing stories of conservation work around the globe.
Catch a glimpse of some special characters who will join other favorite Disney pals on Discovery River Character Cruises.

While on safari, also keep an eye out for two young Masai giraffe who were born a few months ago, and playful Nigerian dwarf goats that hang out at the warden’s outpost.

Disney PhotoPass Service captures magical memories with special in-park Earth Day 2021 backgrounds and Magic Shots, including an all-new photo opportunity. In addition, Earth Day 2021 screen savers and Zoom backgrounds can be downloaded from the My Disney Experience PhotoPass gallery.
Beginning April 2, you can watch as artisans transform 40 tons of sand into a detailed sculpture celebrating National Geographic’s “Secrets of the Whales,” an original series streaming on Disney+ on Earth Day. The intricate sculpted masterpiece will be located on the Discovery Island Stage until April 30.

Best Availability

The earlier that you book, the better the availability will be. Disney has not reopened all Walt Disney World Resort hotels yet so availability is still limited, especially during busier travel times like spring break. Caribbean Beach is also the only moderate resort currently open that can sleep families of five so as you can imagine, these rooms are booking very quickly!

The theme park reservation system has also been extended through 2022 so you can go ahead and reserve your park days as soon as your vacation is booked to ensure that you can visit the park of your choice each day during your visit.

2021 Taste of EPCOT International Festival of the Arts Food Studios Menus

Ready to kick-off 2021 in an artful way? Then get ready for the 2021 Taste of EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, running now through February 22, 2021. In addition to celebrating visual and performing arts, the over 15 Festival of the Arts Food Studios showcase the best in culinary art – blending colorful ingredients, unique cooking techniques, and imaginative presentations to create edible masterpieces for the plate and glass.

Our culinary and beverage teams created many new tastes and sips for this year’s festival and brought back several fan favorites. Be sure to check out our new Food Studio – Vibrante & Vívido Food Studio – located between Morocco & France.

Returning is the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine, a fun food stroll highlighting five delicious sweet and savory offerings at the festival – all listed in the Festival Passport. Upon your colorful purchase, you will receive a stamp for your Festival Passport. Once you’ve collected all five stamps, bring your Festival Passport to the Decadent Delights Food Studio to receive an adorable complimentary Artist Palette Cookie. The Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine can be completed at your leisure, and you can even bring back your stamped Festival Passport to EPCOT at any time during the festival to complete your stroll.
