Don’t Miss the 2016 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival

tgpitg3942-613x409

2016 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival

The 2016 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival has expanded to cover 90 days from March 2 through May 30, 2016. From topiaries scattered throughout the park to outdoor kitchens and concerts, there is something for everyone to enjoy at this annual festival.

The 2016 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival is welcoming two new Outdoor Kitchens, La Isla Fresca and Cider House.

La Isla Fresca will take guests to the Caribbean for authentic bites such as Jamaican braised beef with pigeon peas and rice; spicy jerk chicken or grouper with mango salsa and a Tres Leches cake with guava puree (the traditional meringue is replaced with whipped cream in this version). You can pair either of the savories with a Red Stripe Jamaican-style lager, or frozen Simply Tropical juice drink (with or without rum).

The Cider House offers a spin on tastes from the United Kingdom, including a field greens salad with greens harvested from The Land Pavilion, heirloom apples, Stilton cheese and dried blueberries; and a pear cider-brined shredded corned beef, braised cabbage and pears with Branston (a British food brand) dressing. The Cider House will offer four hard ciders, including a blueberry ciders made in Plant City, Fla., plus Cigar City Tampa-Style Lager.

The 11 other Outdoor Kitchens include Urban Farm Eats (new seared pork tenderloin), Pineapple Promenade , Fleur de Lys, Florida Fresh, Taste of Marrakesh, Hanami, THE SMOKEHOUSE: Barbecue and Brews (the pulled pig slider gets crispy onions on top), Primavera Kitchen, Lotus House, Bauernmarkt (German currywurst sausage is new this year) and Jardin de Fiestas.

You’ll be wowed (as always) by the colorful extravaganza put on by the Disney horticulture team – whimsical topiaries, 220 “floating gardens” in the lagoon and a new edible flower garden next to The Land Pavilion. It’s all beautiful at night, with twinkling lights shining across the gardens.

April 29-May 1 will be Florida Fresh Weekend, featuring the state’s edible bounty from Apalachicola to Zellwood.

As part of the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, you can enjoy free concerts in the park every weekend with the Garden Rocks concert series. Here’s the lineup for the 2016 Garden Rocks concert series at the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival (subject to change without notice):

Top 5 Comfort Foods at Disney World

If you’ve ever been to the Walt Disney World Resort, then you already know how delicious the food is. There are so many more choices than “typical” theme park food like hamburgers and hot dogs. If you are looking for something different to try on your next vacation, check out our list of the top five comfort foods at Disney World:

Macaroni and Cheese

smchhr281726small

One of the most classic comfort foods in the world is macaroni and cheese. You can get regular mac and cheese throughout Disney World, but Columbia Harbor House in Magic Kingdom has added lobster and shrimp to their macaroni and cheese to make it better than ever.

Another great choice at Columbia Harbor House is the chicken pot pie which is filled with white meat chicken, vegetables, and gravy, and then topped with crunchy breadcrumbs.

ChickenPotPiesmall

Pot Roast

pradpb281728-613x410

You can enjoy a tender beed pot roast served with vegetables and mashed potatoes with gravy at Contempo Café in Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Another great place for pot roast is 50’s Primetime Cafe at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. (Let’s be honest, you won’t go wrong with anything you order at 50’s Primetime Cafe!)

Chicken and Waffles

espnyl281726small

Disney also has a modern twist on classic chicken and waffles at ESPN Club at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn. You can order jalapeno-cornmeal waffles, topped with buttermilk fried chicken and chicken gravy.

If you aren’t big on spicy foods, they also have a new barbecue pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich that is served on thick-cut brioche.

espnbbq182738small

Baked Potato

Loaded-Baked-Potato-613x408

One of the best places to order a baked potato is Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter. They offer four loaded baked potato meals. You can have your baked potato topped with barbecue pork; broccoli, cheddar, and bacon; chili and cheese; or chicken, bacon, and cheddar.

Cinnamon Roll

cradak293847-613x416

You can get some delicious cinnamon rolls at a few places in Disney World. Gaston’s Tavern at Magic Kingdom is pretty popular, but another great choice is at Kusafiri Bakery in Animal Kingdom. They have this incredible Mickey-shaped cinnamon roll that is drizzled with caramel sauce and icing.

Late 2014 Disney Springs Update from Disney World

Chances are by now you’ve heard about the transformation happening at Downtown Disney at Disney World which will eventually become Disney Springs. There is plenty of construction there and we’re finally seeing some progress and changes making way for Disney Springs. Two new restaurants, Morimoto Asia and The BOATHOUSE, were recently announced to be coming to Disney Springs. Here is a late 2014 Disney Springs update!

SBC707942-613x408

Walt Disney Imagineering has installed a Springs Bottling Co. Marquee on top of the building that is the future location of Morimoto Asia. The sign is part of the Disney Springs story which pays tribute to Florida’s waterfront towns at the turn of the century since the building was formerly used as Springs Bottling Co., the town’s bottling company. The inside of Morimoto Asia will continue to honor the theme and history of Disney Springs.

Check out this time-lapse video of how the Imagineers put up the new marquee literally over night! The new sign is already part of the illuminated nighttime skyline at Downtown Disney!

The Waterview Stage, which can be found adjacent to the future home of The BOATHOUSE, is already home to nightly entertainment as well as spectacular views of Village Lake. You can find specific showtimes on a Times Guide.

Disney Springs

The Food Trucks at Exposition Park on the West Side will be opening tomorrow, Tuesday, November 25, 2014. This will be the permanent home for the Downtown Disney owned and operated food trucks that serve delicious culinary creations along the water. The food trucks have items from Disney Parks such as chicken and waffles or tandoori spiced shrimp. The area will offer additional seating for dinners and shaded areas during the day.

The Landing, the first phase of Disney Springs, has already brought a new pedestrian bridge between Portobello and Paradiso 37. This makes it easier to access The West Side than ever before. Plus,

The West Garage (the first of two planned garages for Disney Springs) is opening in phases and is now available for guest parking!

By the time Disney Springs is complete, there will be:

  • Dedicated bus lanes separate from the traffic for guests using the buses
  • A beautiful spring as the center of the new Disney Springs
  • Marketplace Causeway connecting T-Rex to Rainforest Cafe

There are a lot of exciting transformations and additions happening at Disney Springs! Which are you most looking forward to seeing?

Tips for Visiting Disney World During the Holidays

holidays 1

Are you planning to visit the Walt Disney World Resort during the holiday week? The week between Christmas and New Years is one of the busiest times at Disney World so here are a few tips if you are visiting Disney World during the holidays.

Preparing For & Traveling To Walt Disney World Resort

  • Use the on-property resort buses, boats and Monorails to avoid traffic and parking fees.
  • Valet parking is now available at Downtown Disney near La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil.
  • When utilizing your own car, plan for additional travel time.
  • Limit your time at theme park bag check by traveling light. Bags can also be checked at Bell Services at resorts or at lockers within theme parks.
  • If staying at an on-property Disney resort, don’t forget about Extra Magic Hours. Different theme parks offer Extra Magic Hours on different days, so check the calendar here for more.
  • Want to stay longer or visit more than one park in a day? Visit Guest Relations or a ticketing window to modify your tickets.
  • Designate a spot inside the park for your party to meet, should someone get separated. Lost and Founds are located at park Guest Relations.
  • Grab a Times Guide on your way into the park to stay informed on showtimes, character greeting locations and more.

Attractions & Entertainment Tips

  • Download the My Disney Experience app for your smartphone. This vacation-planning tool can help you access current attraction wait times, find the nearest entertainment and more. Or visit the Tip Board at the center of each park to see which attractions have the shortest wait times.
  • Utilize the park’s FastPass options. Don’t forget that in addition to attractions, FastPasses also may be available for some character meet and greets, such as Town Square Theater and Princess Fairytale Hall at Magic Kingdom Park.
  • Catch a show in the middle of the day when attraction wait times are typically longer.
  • Some extra performances have been added to the calendar to accommodate our holiday guests. Pick up a Times Guide on your way into the park to see your options.

Dining Tips

  • Avoid crowded restaurants by grabbing a snack from quick service carts located throughout the parks.

Earlier this week, the long awaited Haunted Mansion store finally opened inside Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Memento Mori, the new Haunted Mansion themed merchandise shop, can be found in Liberty Square just past the iconic attraction. The store was “once considered the abode of Madame Leota” according to the Disney Parks Blog.

The Haunted Mansion shop offers a variety of authentic Haunted Mansion merchandise and souvenirs that have been created specifically for Disney Parks. The store does have a purchase limit of six items per style, per guest, per day for all items that can be purchased in the shop. The store will be one of two Magic Kingdom locations to carry the new Haunted Mansion open edition pins (the other spot is Frontier Trading Post). The coveted Haunted Mansion-themed Dooney & Bourke bags will not be available at Memento Mori. The bags will be carried exclusively at Uptown Jewelers on Main Street, U.S.A. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the unique Haunted Mansion merchandise available at Memento Mori:
