Exciting New Experiences to Make an Incredible Summer 2018 at Disney World

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

This summer, beloved stories from several Disney films will come to life at Walt Disney World in the form of new attractions, entertainment, experiences and more at all four parks, setting up summer 2018 to truly be an “Incredible Summer.”

Here’s what to expect at each Walt Disney World Resort location.

The Incredibles Take Over Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park – Guests can party with Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and Frozone from Disney•Pixar’s “The Incredibles” and the soon-to-be blockbuster “Incredibles 2.” Edna Mode, the greatest superhero costume designer, will also make her debut appearance. Each evening, guests can enjoy a “SUPER” dance party on the Rocket Tower Stage. [NOTE: Disney•Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” opens in theaters June 15, 2018.]

The Guardians of the Galaxy Take the Stage at Epcot – Star-Lord and Gamora from “Guardians of the Galaxy” will join an alien band, taking guests on a journey through the cosmos. The party will feature hits from Awesome Mixtapes 1 and 2 – fun and favorite tunes from the two movies’ soundtracks – building the anticipation for a new Epcot Guardians of the Galaxy attraction.

“Explorers Meet UP! A Great Bird Adventure” & A “Dino-Tastic” Celebration for Donald Duck Will Debut At Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Two new can’t-miss offerings will debut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in time for the park’s 20th anniversary. First, guests can discover new bird species from around the world at the new show “Explorers Meet UP! A Great Bird Adventure,” which will star Senior Wilderness Explorer Russell and his furry friend Dug. The park will also launch a “dino-tastic” celebration, in which Donald Duck takes over Dinoland, U.S.A., in a new character celebration.

See “The Incredibles 2” at AMC Disney Springs – Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” – but this time Helen is in the spotlight, while Bob navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet, Dash and baby Jack-Jack, whose superpowers are emerging. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible. “Incredibles 2” busts into theaters on June 15, 2018.

And last, but not least …

Toy Story Land Opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on June 30, 2018– One major highlight of “Incredible Summer” will be the grand opening of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios which is scheduled for June 30, 2018. This new 11-acre land will shrink guests to the size of a toy and allow them go explore the fun and adventure of Andy’s backyard. There, guests can experience two new attractions: the family coaster Slinky Dog Dash (38″ height requirement) and Alien Swirling Saucers (32″ height requirement). Toy Story Land also will feature an existing guest-favorite attraction, Toy Story Mania!, which will expand to add a third track into the rotation. The land’s Woody’s Lunch Box will be a new quick-service restaurant that will offer up tasty meals and old-fashioned soda floats to Toy Story Land guests.

Top Seven Places to Order Macaroni and Cheese at Universal Orlando Resort

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

I LOVE macaroni and cheese. It has always been my absolute favorite food. I can’t get enough of the cheesy, gooey pasta dish.

For the purists out there, some of these dishes could be classified as a twist on the traditional macaroni and cheese. And some don’t use macaroni, but instead use different pasta as their base with a delicious cheese sauce. But it’s all mac and cheese to me.

Without further ado, here are some of the best macaroni and cheese at Universal Orlando Resort.

Jerk Shrimp Mac & Cheese at Whakawaiwai Eats in Universal’s Volcano Bay

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

The newest park at Universal Orlando has incredible food selections, so I couldn’t wait to try the mac and cheese dishes. There are actually two options. The Jerk Shrimp Mac & Cheese is creamy with a kick while the Mac & Cheese is a classic original without the shrimp or spice.

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Both were incredibly good. I personally preferred the classic, but the Jerk Shrimp one is a great option for those of you who like that kick in your mac and cheese.

Chicken Mac & Cheese at NBC Sports Grill & Brew in Universal CityWalk

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Featuring Fusilli pasta, bacon, grilled chicken, forest mushrooms, three cheeses and truffle oil, this delicious dish is anything but ordinary. The creamy pasta is topped with toasted herb bread crumbs that give it a great mix of both sauce and crunch. The Fusilli also provide great texture.

As a huge fan of the creamy mac and cheeses out there, this is my personal favorite. Plus, enjoying it in the casual sports-dining atmosphere of NBC Sports Grill & Brew with a foosball-game-in-the-table tops the experience.

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Insider Tip: If you’re not feeling like an entire entrée of mac & cheese (though I can’t imagine why you’d even think that), you can get a side of mac & cheese with your entrée. The side features macaroni, white cheddar cheese and toasted herb bread crumbs. It’s like a little side of heaven.

Fusilli and Cheese at Lombard’s Seafood Grille in Universal Studios Florida

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

This cheesy pasta surprisingly doesn’t feature seafood despite the restaurant’s name. Instead, it includes tasty chicken, bacon, forest mushrooms and truffle oil. At first look, it seems very similar to the NBC Sports Grill & Brew dish, but the only cheese the two actually have in common is Parmesan. Lombard’s blends Cheddar and Boursin cheeses alongside the Parmesan for a unique flavor.

Shrimp Shack Mac & Cheese at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Universal CityWalk

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Served in a skillet, this Bubba Gump delectable dish features sautéed shrimp and lots of cheese – Cheddar, Monterey Jack and Parmesan. The shrimp is amazing and its flavor carries throughout the dish (obviously – Bubba knew a thing or two). Plus, they don’t skimp on the breadcrumbs. The cheese sauce is rather thin, so this is good for those of you who want less cheese.

Shrimp and Lump Crab Macaroni and Cheese at The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen in Universal CityWalk

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

I was pumped to find that Universal CityWalk’s newest restaurant offered a mac and cheese—and I was not disappointed when I visited the steampunk-themed eatery. The al dente garganelli pasta has a great texture. The fontina Mornay sauce is tasty, but not too heavy. The shrimp and crab mix nicely.

Beware: this is spicy. I’m a plain Jane when it comes to spice, but for those of you who love the spicy mac and cheeses, this one’s for you.

Mac & Cheese at The Kitchen in the Hard Rock Hotel

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

I love dining at the restaurants at Universal Orlando’s five on-site hotels. They’re so convenient after a day at the theme parks. The Kitchen’s mac and cheese is one of my favorites. They use pasta shells, which do a great job of holding three cheeses: Manchego, Monterey Jack and Cheddar. It’s super cheesy (meaning cheese-filled, not like a dad joke) and worth a try.

Twisted Mac, Chicken & Cheese at Hard Rock Café in Universal CityWalk

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

This Hard Rock Café cavatappi in a three-cheese sauce is epic. The grilled chicken compliments the extra cheesy sauce, and the Parmesan parsley bread crumbs provide a nice, subtle crunch. It’s amazing. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to rock out to some great music videos (I miss those) while enjoying this tasty mac and cheese.

There you have it! You now know where to find the best mac and cheese dishes at Universal Orlando Resort. Which one do you think is the best macaroni and cheese at Universal Orlando Resort?

2018 Egg-stravaganza and New Honey Bee Scavenger Hunt at Epcot This Spring

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Egg-citing news to share today! The 2018 Egg-stravaganza scavenger hunt is coming back to the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival this year and we have some new details on this springtime egg-sperience as well as an ALL-NEW Spike the Honey Bee scavenger hunt.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

From March 16 through April 1, guests visiting the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival can participate in the 2018 Egg-stravaganza scavenger hunt – hunting high and low in World Showcase for “eggs” that portray favorite Disney characters.

As you find the hidden Disney Character-themed “eggs” in the park, you record your discoveries by placing a corresponding sticker on a specially themed Egg-stravaganza map. Maps and stickers can be purchased for $5.99, plus tax at the following parks and locations:

  • Disney Trader
  • Pin Central
  • World Traveler

When you find all of the “eggs” and complete your scavenger hunt map, you then return it to Disney Traders for a sp-egg-tacular surprise.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Also, along with this egg-cellent adventure, there will be a new springtime scavenger hunt called Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration during the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. In this hunt, Disney’s favorite honey bee, Spike, has been pollinating his way around the festival, giving gardeners of any age the chance to follow his pollination trail around World Showcase at Epcot.

It’s easy to start this new scavenger hunt. Just pick up a garden map and stickers at Port of Entry. Then, it’s time to look for Spike!

As you explore the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, be on the lookout for Spike as he pollinates Epcot’s gardens. In each garden, you’ll have to search for the plant Spike has pollinated, identifiable by Spike himself and a Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration plant stake. Once you find him, add the corresponding sticker to your map.

After your journey is complete, return your map for a springtime surprise.

Maps and stickers for Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration can be purchased for $5.99, plus tax at Port of Entry.

For more information on the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, visit epcotinspring.com.

8 Fun Facts About Seuss Landing at Universal’s Islands of Adventure

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Seuss Landing at Universal’s Islands of Adventure is a great area for families with little ones and those who are still young at heart. This colorful, whimsical area can draw you in to relive some of your favorite Dr. Seuss stories. Whether you are a huge fan of Seuss Landing or are just planning to check it out someday, these eight fun facts should help!

1. Zax ByPass

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Just past the entrance of Seuss Landing, two stubborn Zax refuse to move out of each other’s intended path. They have been standing off since before anyone can remember, so naturally the world was built around them. Follow their tracks in the cement throughout the island for additional Seuss bonuses.

2. Dr. Seuss Sighting

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

The main man himself made an appearance in a picture perfect spot. Dr. Seuss is located on Mulberry Street, behind the police motorcycle photo opportunity.

There are three men on the wall in the background, and Dr. Seuss is on the far left. I can’t tell you how many photos I’ve taken here and had no idea he was in the background. Sneaky, sneaky.

3. No Straight Lines

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Dr. Seuss’s illustrations were known for their curved or slanted lines. With that as inspiration, the designers at Universal Creative curved every single line they could in Seuss Landing.

4. Sneetch Beach

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

From the book The Sneetches and Other Stories, Sneetch Beach is located near the waterfront of Seuss Landing. At this quiet area, you’ll be able to spot the yellow long-necked characters taking a dip in the water.

Need a reminder of the story? Jump on The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride and you’ll be caught up in no time.

5. Twisted Palm Trees

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

While exploring, you might notice that something is up with the palm trees—they’re bent or twisted in funky, unnatural ways.

These trees were specially brought in from the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew in South Florida when building the land. Thank you, Mother Nature, for your contribution to Seuss Landing!

6. The Circus McGurkus Café Stoo-pendus

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

There’s more than meets the eye at this circus. Stop in to grab a quick bite to eat, and marvel the fearless characters hanging from the ceiling. The tent was inspired from the mind of Morris McGurk in If I Ran the Circus. Every once and a while, make sure to wave at those passing above on the Trolley Train Ride.

7. Perfect Photo Op

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Another legendary photo opportunity is located just behind The Cat, Hat, and Things Store. The famous egg from Horton and the Egg is always looking for some volunteers to keep it warm.

Go ahead and take a seat on the egg for Maisie the Lazy Bird. I’ll make sure to let you know if hatches anytime soon.

8. The Lorax’s House

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

No trip to Seuss Landing is complete without visiting the Lorax. Swing by his household to listen through the pipes about the story of the endangered Truffula trees. If you wander past his house, you’ll approach a healthy grove of trees. I know that makes the Lorax very happy.

I hope these fun facts give you a new thing one or two to check out on your next trip, because a whole adventurous storybook world waits for you. Visit for yourself and be prepared for Seuss Landing to blow your mind, because this silly and creative land is truly one-of-a-kind.

What’s your favorite part of Seuss Landing? Let me know in the comments below.

Where to Get the Best Nachos at Disney World

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Who doesn’t love nachos? With so many nacho offerings available around Walt Disney World Resort, you won’t want to miss this list of the best nachos at Disney World from all four parks and Disney Springs.

Starting at the Planet Hollywood Observatory in Disney Springs, you’ll be excited to find a hefty Nachos Grande on the appetizer menu. A great dish to share with friends, these corn tortilla chips come piled high with chipotle chicken, black bean sauce, cruda salsa verde pico de gallo, queso fresco, sour cream and a blend of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

But that’s not all – Disney Springs has a couple more delicious Nacho offerings available. The Smokehouse, located in Disney Springs West Side, has their incredible Smokehouse Nachos: crispy fried tri-color corn tortilla chips topped with house-made cheese sauce, avocado lime crema, pickled jalapeños, fresh-made pic de gallo and cilantro. You can also order these nachos with pulled pork or smoked beef brisket. And over at T-REX™ in the Disney Springs Marketplace, you’ll find the Colloso Beef Nachos for Two, with Monterey Jack, cheddar cheese, black beans, pico de gallo, green onions and sour cream. These nachos will leave you roaring for more!

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Over at Disney’s BoardWalk, ESPN Club is bringing the game with their Tuna Nachos. This delicious appetizer consists of house-made wonton chips, togarashi-dusted tuna, soy-sesame sauce and wasabi aioli. And these aren’t the only gourmet nachos on the menu – you can also find Pub Nachos with house-fried corn tortilla chips, house-made chili, shredded cheddar, cheese sauce, sour cream, pico de gallo and jalapeños, with the option to add shrimp.

Next on my list is the Loaded Greek Nachos available at the Greece Marketplace. A special dish crafted for the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, these nachos consist of pita chips, meatless sausage crumbles and vegan tzatziki. And not only is this dish vegan, it’s kid-friendly as well! Be sure to stop by Epcot in the fall, as these nachos are only available during the festival.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

For those looking for some smaller portions of nachos, if you’re in Magic Kingdom Park, you can always stop by Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe for some classic beef nachos – tortilla chips topped with queso, seasoned ground beef, lettuce and tomato. For a vegetarian option, you can also ask to substitute black beans in place of the seasoned ground beef! Or if you’re at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Dockside Diner near Echo Lake serves up some tasty chili cheese nachos with guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. For the younger guests, a Kid’s Nachos is also available that comes topped with chili and cheese and includes carrot sticks, apple slices and your choice of a small lowfat milk or a small Dasani® Water. In addition, both of these nachos are completely vegetarian.

Finally, the Yak and Yeti™ Restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has a unique sharable nachos dish that’s perfect for two! The Ahi Tuna Nachos come with sushi grade Ahi, Asian slaw, crispy fried wontons, wasabi aioli and sweet soy glaze.

No matter which park you are visiting, there’s plenty of options for you to chow down on some delicious nachos at Disney World!

Seven Rare Disney Characters in Happily Ever After to Try to Spot

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

One of the things I love about “Happily Ever After,” the new nighttime spectacular at Magic Kingdom Park, is the surprising number of “rare” Disney characters you can spot in the show. And by “rare,” I mean those characters you love but rarely see elsewhere in the parks.

Thanks to the projection technology of this beautiful new show, characters like the Emperor and Shan-Yu from “Mulan”; Syndrome and his Omni-Bot from “The Incredibles”; and WALL-E and EVE from “WALL-E” all have special moments in the show.

Here are seven rare Disney characters in Happily Ever After that I’m sure you’ll be delighted to find in this new nighttime spectacular.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Remy from “Ratatouille” – At one point during “Happily Ever After,” the castle is transformed into Gusteau’s, the restaurant mentioned in the film, with Remy overlooking a Parisian landscape in the distance.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Joy & Sadness from “Inside Out” – This duo appears when the castle appears to be stacked – and then flooded – with colorful memory orbs.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Hiro & Baymax from “Big Hero 6” – This crime-fighting genius and his BFF, Baymax, appear to make an impressive blast off from Cinderella Castle.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Ralph & Vanellope from “Wreck It Ralph” – The gaming duo, Ralph and Vanellope, appear when the castle is wrapped in a candy motif. (Note the castle clock in the picture above, which has transformed into a mint).

“Happily Ever After” is performed nightly at Magic Kingdom Park. For the latest showtimes and information, be sure to check your My Disney Experience app or the park’s Times Guide on the day of your visit.
