Details on Three New Pools at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa at the Disneyland Resort is currently undergoing an exciting hotel-wide renovation—the most extensive refurbishment since the hotel’s 2001 opening. Guests have already been enjoying some of the updates—with many new guest rooms already available and the redesigned pool area now open for summer fun! Let’s take a look at some of the details found at the refreshed pool deck at each of the three pools at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa.

Each of the three pool areas were designed with a variety of natural stones and brick to not only create a warm and welcoming environment, but also define three distinct pool settings. In keeping with the Arts and Crafts style of the hotel, the stone work was hand-laid by master stone masons.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

The Redwood Pool, with its irregular shape, features earthy, organic-feeling materials, including rustic brown flagstone and multicolored brick bands and slide accents. Situated just behind the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail in Disney California Adventure park, the 90-foot-long waterslide curves around a giant Redwood tree stump!

Golden flagstone is used throughout the Fountain Pool. The new urn-shaped fountain serves as the pool area’s centerpiece. The original turtle fountain can now been seen nestled in the garden as a fun addition to the Craftsman-inspired landscape.

The quiet Mariposa Pool features serene bluestone laid in an ashlar (or rectangular) pattern which creates a sleek look. For guests who would like to stretch out and relax, private cabanas line the edge and are available for half-day or full-day rentals.

Which one of the pools at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa would you like to enjoy?

Disneyland Resort’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Recipe

Have you been looking for a great pumpkin recipe to try this fall or to make for Thanksgiving dinner? This pumpkin cheesecake recipe from the Disneyland Resort may be just what you have been looking for!

If you’re heading to Disneyland sometime soon, you can try the original dish at Boardwalk Pizza and Past inside Disney California Adventure Park, Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe or French Market inside Disneyland Park, or at White Water Snacks inside Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa. If you need a pumpkin fix, there are pumpkin treats around just about every corner of the parks.

PKC797945

Pumpkin Cheesecake Receipe
Makes 9-inch cheesecake

Crust

  • 1 1/2 cups crushed graham cracker
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1/3 cup butter-melted

Cheesecake Filling

  • 3 (8-ounce) blocks cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 15-ounce can pumpkin purée
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 5-ounce can evaporated milk
  • Chocolate syrup, for drizzling

For crust:

  1. In a bowl combine the crushed graham cracker, sugar and ginger. Melt the butter and stir into mixture.
  2. Spray bottom and sides of a 9-inch springform pan. Press crust mixture into bottom of pan using your hands.
  3. Place pan on a large piece of foil and wrap foil tightly up sides and around pan.

For cheesecake filling:

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Beat cream cheese, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Scrape down sides of bowl.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Scrape down sides of bowl.
  4. Whisk together pumpkin purée, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl until well combined. Add pumpkin mixture to cream cheese mixture, beating until well combined. Scrape down sides of bowl. Add evaporated milk, mixing well.
  5. Slowly pour cheesecake filling onto crust mixture in prepared pan. Drizzle with chocolate syrup.
  6. Place foil-wrapped pan inside a larger roasting pan. Place oven rack and carefully add enough hot water to reach halfway up sides of springform pan.
  7. Bake 1 hour, or until center moves only slightly when shaken.
  8. Turn oven off. Crack open oven door, and allow cheesecake to cool inside oven 1 hour.
  9. Remove pan from water bath and set on a wire rack to cool completely. Cover top of pan with foil and refrigerate for at least 4 hours and up to overnight.

Cook’s Notes: Wrapping foil around springform pan prevents water from the water bath from getting into the cheesecake. The slow cooling inside the oven prevents cheesecake top from cracking.

runDisney has just announced another race weekend for 2014, the Avengers Super Heroes Race Weekend at the Disneyland Resort in California November 14-16, 2014.

This brand new three-day race weekend will feature kids races, a 5K and a half marathon, as well as several family-friendly events such as a Health & Fitness Expo and even a pre-race Pasta in the Park Party. Registration for the weekend’s events opens March 25 at www.runDisney.com.

Featuring the first Super Hero-themed entertainment and characters, the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend will be a unique runDisney experience.

The Avengers event is expected to be in high demand as other runDisney race weekends are, which have sold out in record time in recent years. Overall, runDisney race weekends attracted more than 163,900 runners last year, which was a 40 percent increase over the previous year, which made the runDisney series one of the largest in the nation.

The Avengers Half Marathon Weekend will be the eighth runDisney event in 2014 and third at Disneyland Resort. It will follow the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend (May 7-10, 2015) and the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend (Aug. 28-31, 2014) at Disneyland Resort.

However, the Avengers Half Marathon course will be a new, unique 13.1-mile route through the Disneyland Resort and surrounding areas that will be different from the Tinker Bell and Disneyland half marathon courses. Runners who successfully brave the new Avengers Half Marathon course will receive a commemorative Avengers-themed finishers’ medal.
