The festival’s signature events are also experiences worth checking out! One of my favorites is Sweet Sundays, which is returning this year. This popular event makes for a sweet start to your day, allowing you to join a celebrity pastry chef for an entertaining dessert-centric demonstration, an interview with the chef, and a light brunch buffet featuring one of the chef’s dishes! If you’ve ever wanted to hone your pastry and baking techniques and indulge in yummy desserts, this is definitely the event for you. This event occurs on select Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Palisades Stage in Paradise Gardens Park for the duration of the festival, and space is limited, so be sure to make your reservations today!

  • March 10 – Jean-Marc Viallet, Disneyland Resort Executive Pastry Chef
  • March 24 – Matt Lewis, Baked NY and Tokyo, Baked: New Frontiers in Baking
  • April 7 – Emily Ellyn, Food Network Star and Cutthroat Kitchen
  • April 21 – Keegan Gerard, Food Network Challenge

Another exciting event is the Dinner with the Disney Chefs. This sumptuous dinner is on Thursday, March 28, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the Vineyard Room at Wine Country Trattoria. Here, you’ll get to meet the Disneyland Resort chefs and sommeliers featured in the new Disney Festivals Cookbook, all while enjoying a four-course dinner with dishes inspired by the festival recipes and paired with hand-selected wines and cocktails. This event is a great way to enhance your Food & Wine Festival experience.

Don’t Miss the Details at Toy Story Midway Mania! at Disney California Adventure

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, step right up to take a closer look at Toy Story Midway Mania at Disney California Adventure Park! Toy Story Midway Mania! opened in June 2008 and joined the California-themed boardwalk, which will soon be a part of the new Pixar Pier when it opens June 23, 2018. The Victorian architectural design of Toy Story Midway Mania! celebrates the heyday of the great seaside parks of the early 20th century, while bringing everyone’s favorite Pixar characters to Disney California Adventure Park.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

The adventure begins as guests pass through the portal and “shrink” into the toy world. You’ll notice details like the white baseboards along the floor grow from a few inches to nearly four feet high! In addition, the ceiling’s height gives you a toy’s eye view of the attraction. Even wall outlets are larger than life with strings of giant lights plugged into the sockets.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Andy’s toys, games, books and drawings line the walls, occupying every nook and cranny throughout the attraction and creating a toy carnival. There are actually 29 different activities and toys you can identify from the “Toy Story” films—or maybe even your own childhood. Next time you visit, try to see how many you find!

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Some of the toys have opened carnival booths in between games. The “Hockey Puck’s Ice Cream” show set towards the end of the attraction refers to a line made famous by Don Rickles, the comedian who voices Mr. Potato Head.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

There are also certain targets and combinations of targets that, when hit, will trigger hidden surprises that visually affect the gamescape and encourage participants to thoroughly explore all the targets. While riding, be sure to keep an ear out for Rex who is a fan of games and knows a trick or two that will help you out.

Toy Story Midway Mania! is open for you to enjoy while Imagineers prepare for the Pixar Pier opening on June 23, 2018. To learn more about this attraction and how Woody and friends came together to put on this game, check out Magic of Disney Parks Storytelling: Toy Story Midway Mania!

Explore the Legend of Grizzly River Run at Disney California Adventure Park

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Buckle up river rafters! Grizzly River Run at Disney California Adventure park is a one-stop destination for thrill-seeking rafters—and you’re invited to take a closer look as we ride up, down and through Grizzly Peak.

The Disney Parks Blog is exploring the thrilling whitewater raft adventure which takes guests down a roaring California river reminiscent of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This mountain also conceals several story elements and fun references which may “peak” your interest!

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

According to legend, long ago a coyote met a grizzly bear on top of the mountain. Seeing that the grizzly was such a powerful creature, the coyote asked him to watch over and protect the land. Even as people came upon the mountain and tried to chase the grizzly bear down, the bear held his ground. When the coyote saw that the bear was alone against the surrounding people, he turned the grizzly into stone so he could never be driven away. To this day, people claim they can hear the bear’s spirit in the wind when traveling through the caverns of Grizzly Peak.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

As you walk through the land of Grizzly Peak, you may notice an assortment of items, including mining equipment. During California’s Gold Rush days, the whitewater rapids became home to the Eureka Gold & Timber Mining Company, when prospectors were drawn to the hope of striking it rich in the Sierras. As time went on and gold began to run dry, people began to realize that the beauty of Grizzly Peak was more precious than gold.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

The rapids we see today are a result of the logging and natural waterways that was important to the business boom brought on by “Gold Fever.” With a twist on this idea, adventure seekers can brace themselves and raft along the rushing waters of the mountain, almost like bobbing, twirling logs, spinning out of control.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Throughout Grizzly Peak, guests are invited take a break from technology, open their minds to conservation, and pledge to help preserve the surrounding land. Wilderness areas and parks allow people to slow down and to appreciate and experience on a person‐to‐person, human scale. By walking about and exploring lands such as Grizzly Peak, visitors can focus on delicate plant life, gentle streams, silent vistas and amazing wildlife.

Do you have a favorite spot near Grizzly River Run to soak in the wild beauty of California? Or do you prefer to get soaked while braving gurgling geysers, jetting water and a splashdown? Comment below!

Top Ten Cold Snacks at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Southern California is warm and sunny most of the year – so it’s almost always the perfect season for some cold snacks at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park! Here are the top 10 best cold snacks at Disneyland Resort.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

10. Bifrosties – Behind Schmoozies at Disney California Adventure park, Bifrosties is serving up flavored shaved ice…but only during Summer of Heroes, which ends September 10. My favorite is Spider Venom (blue raspberry and cherry with condensed milk)!

9. Caprese on Focaccia Bread – Tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, lettuce, citrus aioli, basil vinaigrette and balsamic glaze combine on delicious focaccia bread for a satisfying summer lunch at Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe in Disneyland park.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

8. Lobster Roll – If you haven’t yet found this gem at Harbour Galley in Critter Country, you are missing out! Chilled lobster salad is served on a toasted, buttered roll for a filling – but not too filling – meal.

7. Gourmet Cheese Plate and Cold Cut Plate – Enjoy these nibbles with a chilled glass of Chardonnay at Sonoma Terrace in Disney California Adventure park for a relaxing afternoon.

6. Flo’s Classic Chocolate Shake – I love a chocolate milkshake, especially when it’s topped with “Road Gravel.” And Flo’s V8 Cafe has one of my favorite outdoor dining locations in all of Disneyland Resort, where you can chill out in the shade with your shake and a spectacular view of the Cadillac Mountain Range.

5. Fanta Orange Float – Two Scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream plus Fanta Orange soda equals heaven in a cup. Creamy, refreshing and colorful, this drink always has other guests asking me, “What’s that?!” That’s when I point them in the direction of Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street, U.S.A.

4. Ahi Poke – You can find this traditional Hawaiian dish at a variety of locations throughout Disney California Adventure park, but I’m recommending Tangaroa Terrace at Disneyland Hotel as a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks. Order up a serving and sit in the outside dining area, overlooking the retro-themed pools and waterslides.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

3. World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae – At Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, I ask for mine with a scoop of Cookies ‘n Cream and a scoop of Cookie Dough ice cream.

2. Cobb Salad – Hands down, without question, the Cobb Salad at Plaza Inn on Main Street, U.S.A., is my favorite salad. Not just at the Disneyland Resort – anywhere. I don’t know if it’s some magic with the salad itself or the iconic location, but in my opinion, you can’t beat it.

1. Boysen Apple Freeze – Sharing the top spot with Red’s Apple Freeze (its cousin at Disney California Adventure park), Boysen Apple Freeze wins the top spot for me because it is refreshing and a bit lighter – made with frozen apple juice, a hint of wild berry and topped with passion fruit foam.

What are your favorite cold snacks at Disneyland Resort on a hot day?

New Incredibles Float Joins Paint the Night Parade at Disney California Adventure

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

The fan-favorite “Paint the Night” parade at Disney California Adventure park is currently dazzling audiences during the limited-time Pixar Fest at the Disneyland Resort. This electrifying parade uses more than 1 million brilliant lights, high-energy music and cutting edge special effects featuring many beloved Disney and Pixar pals. A new Incredibles float will be added to the Paint the Night Parade at Disney California Adventure Park on June 23, 2018.

Joining “Paint the Night” on June 23 is a new float inspired by Disney•Pixar’s “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2.” The Parr family and their pal Frozone will make their debut in this spectacular parade with high-tech, pop-art effects.

Here’s how the fun and excitement of The Incredibles float will be brought to life:

  • The dynamic and colorful new float connects both “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2,” picking up where the first film left off and portraying the scene that shows the Parr family banding together against the supervillain known as “The Underminer.”
  • Violet Parr uses her super powers to surround herself with a “force field.” It will come to life through a custom-built persistence-of-vision (POV) globe – the first and largest ever to be installed on a Disney parade float.
  • Dash’s super-human speed is captured through an innovative system of 64 individually lit frames, flashing as he races in circles around the float.
  • Mr. Incredible and Mrs. Incredible, along with their pal Frozone, light up the night in new super suits. The suits have been installed and wired by hand and are fully programmable to be in sync with the music and the float lighting.
  • The super suits, designed by eccentric fashion designer Edna Mode, are illuminated with nearly 100 sheets of flexible, miniature LEDs. This is the first time these light-up suits will be worn by any Disney or Pixar character.
  • The chest logos on the Incredibles’ glowing super suits are made up of 60 individually programmable LEDs.

This “super” float joins “Paint the Night” this summer during Pixar Fest, the limited-time celebration happening now through September 3. Pixar Pier will also welcome guests at Disney California Adventure park on June 23.

Be sure to catch “Incredibles 2” in theaters now!

Pixar Pier to Include Four Neighborhoods Inspired by Pixar Stories

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

When Pixar Pier opens later this summer in Disney California Adventure park, guests will find four whimsical neighborhoods inspired by beloved Pixar stories. Here’s a bit more detail on what to expect at Pixar Pier!

Incredibles Park – Inspired by “The Incredibles,” Incredibles Park will be an inviting plaza featuring mid-century modern design aesthetics. Guests will enter through an archway where the iconic Incredibles logo will be seen overhead. Once inside, the new Incredicoaster will take you on a thrilling race alongside the Parr family. A combination of character figures, lighting, music and special effects will bring all the action to life! Upon exiting the attraction, the Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums stand will tempt guests with freshly-baked treats.

Toy Story Boardwalk – Adjacent to Incredibles Park, Toy Story Boardwalk will be themed to “Toy Story.” Guests will be shrunk down to the size of a toy on the fan-favorite Toy Story Midway Mania! Jessie the yodeling cowgirl will invite you for a rootin’ tootin’ spin on Jessie’s Critter Carousel (opening in 2019). At Poultry Palace, big appetites and small fries alike can enjoy a fun meal inspired by Pixar’s short, “Toy Story Toon: Small Fry.” There will even be a fun-sized Zurg—perfect for photo ops! You can also stop by Señor Buzz Churros, where Buzz has switched into Spanish mode to offer this classic treat. ¡Delicioso!

Pixar Promenade – This charming seaside promenade inspired by classic turn-of-the-century California boardwalks will celebrate the heartwarming stories and beloved characters from all of Pixar’s films. The focal point of Pixar Promenade will be the Pixar Pal-A-Round. This reimagining of a guest favorite will still include the iconic face of Mickey Mouse on the Paradise Bay side of the wheel. But now, each of the 24 gondolas will feature different pairs of Pixar pals!

Pixar Promenade will also feature the Games of the Boardwalk, offering guests a chance to test their skills and win a prize. The four colorful game booths will include Heimlich’s Candy Corn Toss, Wall-E Space Race, La Luna Star Catcher and Bullseye Stallion Stampede. Also featured along the promenade will be a classic band-shell stage, ideal for musical entertainment acts and encounters with your favorite Pixar characters. Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff will feature delightful confections, including saltwater taffy and rainbow cotton candy. For some savory bites, head over to Angry Dogs, where the dogs heat up as Anger from “Inside Out” burns with rage!

Inside Out Headquarters – Located on the western end of the pier, the lush and colorful area inspired by “Inside Out” will be known as Inside Out Headquarters. This playground for the emotions will feature a whimsical family-friendly attraction, scheduled to open at a later date.

Jessie’s Critter Carousel and More New Experiences Coming to Pixar Pier

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

In addition to the newly reimagined Incredicoaster and all-new Lamplight Lounge, guests will discover new experiences – both big and small – throughout the newly reimagined Pixar Pier.

In 2019, Jessie the yodeling cowgirl will invite you for a rootin’ tootin’ spin on Jessie’s Critter Carousel. Inspired by Jessie’s wilderness friends in the “Woody’s Roundup” television show from “Toy Story 2,” this newly reimagined attraction is a classic boardwalk carousel with a whimsical spin. Saddle up on one of 56 adorable friends, choosing from a turtle, snake, buzzard, armadillo, bunny, deer, raccoon, ram, skunk and two cozy logs inhabited by a family of owls.

And when Pixar Pier opens June 23 at Disney California Adventure park, guests will find transformation around every corner.

Just past Lamplight Lounge, you will find Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats. Inspired by the lovable and not-at-all-abominable monster from “Monsters, Inc.,” this will be your go-to for frozen treats.

In the “Toy Story” neighborhood of Pixar Pier, big appetites and small fries alike will love the Poultry Palace. This giant fun meal inspired by Pixar’s short, “Toy Story Toon: Small Fry,” even comes with a Fun Meal Zurg!

¿Quieres un churro? Stop by Señor Buzz Churros, where Buzz has switched into Spanish mode to offer this quintessential Disneyland Resort treat.

Further down Pixar Pier, Angry Dogs will be serving up some hot items – which is the perfect place for Anger from “Inside Out.” The more he burns with rage, the hotter the dogs get!

Come discover these and many more newly themed experiences throughout Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure park!
