Back to school season always puts me in a funny mood. The lunches are packed, the routines are back, and somewhere in the middle of it all, I’m already dreaming about the next family vacation. So, when Disney Cruise Line dropped their Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 itineraries, I couldn’t wait to dig in.

This lineup has a little bit of everything: a big return to New York City, brand new ports, and plenty of the beloved Bahamas, Caribbean, and Mexico sailings families count on year after year. Here’s what’s new and exciting, and why now is the time to start planning.

Disney Wish Is Sailing From New York City

Start spreading the news, because Disney Cruise Line is headed back to the Big Apple. After wrapping up its inaugural season in Europe, the Disney Wish will arrive in New York City in late September 2027 for seven special voyages ranging from four to seven nights.

From there, families can sail to the pink sand beaches of Bermuda on five different sailings, three of which include an extra day to soak up more of the island’s culture and scenery. Or, if fall foliage is calling your name, the Disney Wish will sail from New York to New England and Canada’s Atlantic coast for the first time in nearly four years. Imagine those iconic red funnels against a backdrop of changing leaves. It’s the kind of trip that photographs itself.

I’ve sailed out of New York myself, and there is something special about watching the skyline fade behind you as the ship heads out to sea. It gives the whole trip a different energy than boarding in Florida, and it’s a wonderful option for East Coast families who want a Disney vacation without the flight to a home port.

New Sailings From Puerto Rico and Panama

San Juan will see even more Disney magic, with the Disney Wish and Disney Fantasy both offering five to seven night Southern and Eastern Caribbean sailings from its historic coast this fall and spring.

For families who love a good adventure, the Disney Magic will make two repositioning cruises through the Panama Canal, each including a maiden call in a new port. These 14 night sailings are a wonderful way to enjoy extra time onboard while experiencing something truly special along the way.

Florida Sailings Get Even Better

Florida remains a home base for Disney magic, and this season brings a few firsts. The Disney Destiny will home port in Port Canaveral for the first time, offering three to seven night cruises to The Bahamas and Western Caribbean, before opening the season in Fort Lauderdale with heroes and villains themed dining and entertainment families are going to love.

The Disney Wish will return to Port Canaveral after its New York and San Juan sailings, offering three and four night Bahamian cruises with stops at both Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Meanwhile, the Disney Treasure, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy continue their well loved rotations of Bahamian and Caribbean sailings, with a few special extras sprinkled in, including the Disney Fantasy’s first ever eight night sailing to Bermuda.

Florida is where I’ve sailed most often, and it’s easy to see why so many families start here. The short flights to Orlando, the ease of pairing a cruise with a few days at the parks, and the sheer number of ship and itinerary combinations make it a wonderfully flexible home base.

California and Texas Families, You’re Covered Too

Both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder will sail from San Diego through early November 2027, with three to seven night Baja and Mexican Riviera itineraries stopping in Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, and Catalina Island. I’ve sailed from San Diego as well, and it is a beautiful, laid back way to start a cruise, with a completely different feel from the East Coast departures.

After its Panama Canal crossing, the Disney Magic will head to Galveston for four to seven night cruises, including select seven night Bahamian itineraries that stop at both Disney island destinations. A great option for Texas families who want the full Disney island experience without the cross country flight.

Southeast Asia Sailings Continue to Grow

The Disney Adventure will keep sailing from Singapore with new three and four night itineraries through the end of 2027, complete with Broadway style entertainment. Select sailings beginning December 31, 2026 will also add a new port of call in Langkawi, Malaysia, known for its rainforests and coastline.

Seasonal Magic Returns This Fall

If your family loves a good holiday cruise, mark your calendars. Halloween on the High Seas kicks off in September 2027, and Very Merrytime sailings return in November and December with tree lightings, deck parties, and a visit from Santa himself.

Why This Matters for Your Family

Early bookings open for select Castaway Club members on August 31, with general bookings following on September 8. Disney sailings like these, especially the New York City and Bermuda itineraries, tend to book up quickly given how limited and unique they are.
