Top Five Ways to Celebrate your Birthday at Disneyland Resort

From the Disney Parks Blog:

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

“A very merry un-birthday to you!” Guests from around the world celebrate birthdays (and un-birthdays) every day at the Disneyland Resort. Here are five magical ways to celebrate a birthday at Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth:

1. Start Early. Staying at one of the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort? Kick off the festivities from the moment you arrive at the hotel with in-room celebration goodies. Available gift baskets include a colorful birthday-themed pair of Disney Ear Hats to wear throughout your visit.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

2. Snag Souvenirs. Take a magical memory of your birthday trip home with you. Complimentary “Happy Birthday” and other celebratory buttons are available at City Hall in Disneyland park or Guest Services in Disney California Adventure park.* In addition, autograph books are an excellent way to request and collect special birthday messages from your favorite characters. *Valid theme park admission is required.

3. Dine with Friends. For a magical dining experience, book a dining reservation with a few of your favorite friends. For breakfast, enjoy your morning meal in the company of Disney characters at Plaza Inn in Disneyland park, Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, or PCH Grill at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel serves up playfully fun food and character encounters for breakfast and dinner.

4. Make a Wish. What’s a birthday without a cake? Order a custom birthday cake for delivery to select table service restaurants around the resort. Once you choose your favorite theme, place your order in advance and enjoy! Disneyland Resort Hotel guests can also have cakes delivered to their rooms.

5. Sing Along. Head over to Mad Tea Party in Disneyland park to take a spin on the tea cups and sing along to “A Very Merry Un-Birthday.” For continued musical fun, meet the Jambalaya Jazz Band in New Orleans Square and request a performance of “Happy Birthday” in addition to their catchy American classics.

Have you celebrated your birthday at Disneyland Resort?

Journey to “Nowhere in Particular” on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disneyland Park

From the Disney Parks Blog:

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Journey via motorcar to “Nowhere in Particular” on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disneyland park. One of the original 1955 Opening Day “dark ride” attractions in Fantasyland, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is unique to Disneyland Resort.

The attraction takes guests on a wild speed race through the English countryside, wreaking havoc on the town along the way. We love a good joyride as much as the next toad, but the attraction moves quite quickly, racing past some of the finer details. So, let’s look at some of the easily missed hidden humor and subtle British influence on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Approaching the grand manor known as Toad Hall, the home of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, the English influence is unmistakable. A 19th century-inspired English weathervane tops one of the gables, and just above the entrance stands a stone statue of a dapper Mr. Toad himself, elegantly holding a cup of tea.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

The motorcars themselves feature the names of various characters from the “Wind in the Willows” segment of the 1949 Disney feature film that inspired the attraction, “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.” Fittingly, the steering wheels are placed on the right side of the vehicle as they would be in England. Motorcar names include: Mr. Toad, MacBadger, Moley, Ratty, Weasel, Winky and Cyril.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

As guests dash through the wharf scene, look out for the famous Tower Bridge, an iconic London landmark. Careful observers can even spot the tiny lights of vehicles moving across.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

The next room, the village square, contains two important details. First, in an upstairs window, the distinctive silhouette of Sherlock Holmes is faintly visible, a subtle ode to the British detective. Second, in an alcove to the right of the window stands a statue of a woman representing justice, holding a sword in one hand and scales in the other. The statue humorously foreshadows Mr. Toad’s fate at the end of the attraction and the impending consequences of his joyride.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Just around the corner, as the statue of justice predicted, a judge wearing traditional English jurisprudence robes and a curly gray wig hands down the sentence.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

We hope you enjoyed this inside look into the wacky world of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and remember the motto emblazoned on Mr. Toad’s crest: Toadi Acceleratio Semper Absurda (A Speeding Toad is Always Absurd!)

Holiday Celebrations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Begin November 8, 2019

From the Disney Parks Blog:

Photo: Disney Parks Blog

Everyone will be feeling extra merry and bright at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this holiday season, with festive new entertainment and holiday décor in every land! For the first time, holiday celebrations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be held throughout the park and all the fun begins November 8, 2019.

It all begins when you cross the bridge to Discovery Island, finding yourself in the midst of a celebration of winter, hand-crafted by the eclectic community of artists who make the island their home. The village is filled with sparkling white holiday decorations. Colorful, animal-inspired luminaries line the rooftops, and wireframe lanterns in the shape of beautiful birds can be found perched throughout the area. And during the day, Discovery Island springs to life with a holiday gathering of winter animals, realized in the form of life-size, artisan-sculpted puppets. Reindeer, foxes, polar bears, penguins and more interact with guests, accompanied by serenading musicians as they create a playful atmosphere of festive fun.

As day becomes night, the rooftop luminaries and bird lanterns all around Discovery Island bring a warm and festive glow to the entire village. At the center of everything, the Tree of Life awakens with a series of wintry tales, complemented by a familiar and heartwarming holiday-inspired musical score. Between awakening moments, the Tree of Life continues to shimmer and sparkle throughout the night, alive with the magic of nature and the spirit of the holidays.

Over in Dinoland, U.S.A., all the Disney character friends gathered for Donald’s Dino-Bash! get into the spirit with colorful holiday decorations in the style of Donald Duck and each of his pals, and at night, you’re invited to gather ‘round Truck-O-Saurus for the Holiday Hoopla Dance Party with Chip ‘n Dale and plenty of interactive fun and games.

In Asia, the residents of Anandapur have decorated the theatre district in celebration of Diwali, the holiday festival of lights in India. Glowing flowers, lanterns and more illuminate the square between Anandapur Theater and the waterfront stage, home to authentic cultural performances.

The village of Harambe in Africa welcomes visitors with a unique holiday presentation, blending the inspiration and style of western traditions with the colors and textiles of authentic African celebrations. The various groups appearing throughout Harambe introduce holiday-inspired enhancements, including costume additions and new music, to their performances. The holiday fun continues inside Tusker House for dining with Disney friends, where Mickey and his pals spread holiday cheer throughout the meal.

The holiday spirit even reaches Pandora – The World of Avatar, where the ex-pats living and working on the moon of Pandora bring a little Christmastime fun to their alien home, with a display at Pongu Pongu of kitschy holiday décor, combining vintage pieces from Earth with items handcrafted from materials indigenous to Pandora.

It’s going to be an extra magical holiday season at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and across Walt Disney World Resort, filled with wonder and delight in all four parks! Make plans to join the holiday celebrations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, starting November 8, 2019.

With more than 100 attractions and entertainment offerings, there is a lot to see and do at the Disneyland Resort. Sometimes, the best way to experience the resort is at a leisurely pace, making time to rest and relax. It’s vacation after all!

Here are ten places to relax at Disneyland where you can kick back and enjoy your time at the Happiest Place on Earth:

1. Disneyland Railroad – Take a relaxing tour aboard the Disneyland Railroad and travel to your next destination at Disneyland park on an authentic steam-powered train. The attraction is just over a mile long and offers a nearly 20-minute scenic break if you take it round trip.

2. Star Wars Launch Bay – Explore immersive exhibits, encounter Kylo Ren and get off of your feet for 10 minutes in the Launch Bay Theater in Tomorrowland, offering a short film that celebrates the entire Star Wars saga running continuously throughout the day.

3. People Watching – Relax on benches throughout the theme parks and enjoy the sweet sounds and unique views of the resort. The hustle and bustle of Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland park, including the classic turn-of-the century vehicles, or Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park, brimming with life and live entertainment, are perfect spots.

4. Mark Twain Riverboat – Take a seat aboard the 19th-century-inspired riverboat for a half-mile journey into the worlds of old America. The charming adventure offers all sorts of sights and sounds along the river’s edge.

5. Disney Animation Building – No reservations are required for the drawing classes that occur every 30 minutes at the Animation Academy in Hollywood Land. Plus, the Animation Courtyard, Sorcerer’s Workshop and “Turtle Talk with Crush” are great experiences showcasing beloved Disney films in the same building.

6. Bengal Barbecue – Take advantage of the recently added air-conditioned seats at Bengal Barbeque in Adventureland and try the seasonal favorite, Musubi Special. Additional seating in the area will be available soon when Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room and The Tropical Hideawayopen.

7. Tomorrowland Theater and Sunset Showcase Theater – Head to the Tomorrowland Theater or Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land for an entertainment treat. Enjoy a sneak peek of Disney’s dazzling new adventure “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” now playing in the Sunset Showcase Theater!
