Fourteen Best Roller Coasters at Disney Parks Around the World

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Not everyone thinks of thrill rides and roller coasters when they think of Disney World or any of the Disney Parks, but when it comes to immersive, high-energy thrill rides – Disney Parks do it better than anyone. Millions of our guests “get their coaster on” at Disney Parks around the world every day. Although it’s hard to narrow down our favorites, here are the fourteen best roller coasters at Disney Parks all over the world!

  1. Space Mountain – A classic. From Disneyland Resort in Anaheim to Hong Kong Disneyland and everywhere in between, this indoor coaster has dipped and tripped guests on a one-of-a-kind outer space adventure. At Disneyland Paris, you can find the Star Wars version of the attraction, Hyperspace Mountain; and a ghoulish version shows up at the Disneyland Resort during Halloween called Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy.
  1. TRON Lightcycle Power Run – An ode to the hit Disney films, “TRON” and “TRON: Legacy,” guests of Shanghai Disney Resort hop on the iconic lightcyles and Experience high-speed thrills and chills as the Grid comes alive in a heart-pounding race for survival. And we just announced its inclusion in Magic Kingdom Park here at Walt Disney World – VERY exciting!
  1. Barnstormer, Featuring the Great Goofini – Much more my speed. Located in Storybook Circus at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort, The Great Goofini is known for his aerial expertise and high-flying stunts. Perfect for smaller visitors, Barnstormer has guests rolling through some of his most iconic swoops and swirls – at a graceful pace.
  1. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – a HUGE hit at Magic Kingdom Park and now the toast of Shanghai Disney Resort. Guests “rock” and “roll” through scenes from Dwarfs’ mine – showcasing characters and songs from the iconic film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” You haven’t lived until you’ve heard “Heigh Ho” sung in Mandarin!
  1. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – Amid rugged bedrock and desert cactus, venture inside a nearly 200-foot mountain to the Big Thunder Mining Company, established in the early days of America’s Gold Rush. Traipse down into an abandoned mine shaft and discover a mysterious 5-car locomotive waiting to take you on a journey inside an abandoned shaft. Guests around the world love this attraction with versions at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

  1. Expedition Everest – A trek through the Himalayas and “The Forbidden Mountain,” no coaster tour of Walt Disney World Resort would be complete without a ride on Expedition Everest. Walt Disney Imagineers spent years researching legends and myths of Southeast Asia to be able to accurately immerse guests into this world. The views from the climb to the top are some of the most exquisite on Walt Disney World Resort property. It makes you anticipate and appreciate the inevitable thrills and chills as you fall even more.
  1. California Screamin’ – One of the icons of Disney California Adventure park, this ode to the classic wooden roller coaster can be seen for miles around. With Mickey Mouse’s cute face watching, guests almost forget going through the 120-foot plunge to 360-degree loop. Almost.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

  1. Indiana Jones et le Temple du Peril – Guests of Disneyland Paris can re-create their favorite mine car scene “Temple of Doom”-style as they twist and turn through dark, cursed ruins.
  1. Crush’s Coaster – Guests of Walt Disney Studios Paris join Crush and friends in Toon Studio®, where they board turtle shells and prepare for a ride through memorable moments from the the Disney•Pixar film, “Finding Nemo.” This is a REALLY cool ride for younger and young-at-heart guests alike.
  1. Raging Spirits – A hallmark attraction of Tokyo DisneySea, this is a high-speed rollercoaster attraction racing through the excavated ruins of an ancient ceremonial site. This thrilling ride will turn your world upside down – literally.
  1. Matterhorn Bobsleds – Another Disneyland classic – taking guests twisting and turning through the Swiss Alps. As guests swoop in and out of shadowy caves and along jagged rocky ledges; throttle through icy chutes and around frozen precipices, the “real” danger is not in the landscape. I won’t spoil it for newbies who haven’t ridden yet. Opening in 1959, the Matterhorn Bobsleds was the very first tubular steel roller coaster in the world.
  1. Water Coasters – Those looking for a wetter coaster experience look no further than Disney Parks. Crush ‘n’ Gusher at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park pushes and splashes guests through 400-foot-long tubes with uphill climbs and a plunge into Hideaway Bay at the end. And we can’t forget the water coasters aboard our Disney Cruise Line ships – the AquaDuck aboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy and the AquaDunk aboard the Disney Magic give Disney Cruise Line guests a ride they will never forget.
  1. Gadget’s Go Coaster – Another attraction for the entire family, this engaging “coaster” is based on the work of the character Gadget Hackwrench from the Disney animated series Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. Guests of both Disneyland Resort in California and Tokyo Disney Resort can enjoy its family-friendly twists, turns, humps and bumps.
  1. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Starring Aerosmith – A game changer in indoor rollercoasters, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster features one of the fastest rides at Disney Parks paired with a one-of-a-kind soundtrack. Guests of both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Paris know to “hang on” when the 0-to-60-MPH launch starts.

Pongu Lumpia Recipe from Pongu Pongu in Pandora- The World of Avatar

One of my favorite snacks in Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is Pongu Lumpia, from Pongu Pongu. The Disney Parks Blog recently shared the Pongu Lumpia recipe which has been adapted to be made at home.

On Earth, lumpia is a spring roll of Chinese origin, commonly found as a popular street food snack in Indonesia and the Philippines. It is traditionally a mixture of savory vegetables and chopped meat filling rolled in a spring roll wrapper. However, the Disney Culinary Team developed the version sold at Pandora – The World of Avatar with a sweet spin – cream cheese and diced pineapple.

Pongu Lumpia Recipe (Pineapple Cream Cheese Spring Rolls)
Pongu Pongu, Pandora—The World of Avatar
Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Makes 10 Lumpia

  • 10 spring roll wrappers
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 cups diced fresh pineapple
  • 1/2 cup sugar, divided
  • Oil for frying

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
2. Carefully separate spring roll wrappers. Cover wrappers with moist paper towel to prevent drying.
3. Cut softened cream cheese into 10 equal pieces.
4. Place one spring roll wrapper on a cutting board. Place one piece of cream cheese in the center of the spring roll and spread evenly on wrapper, leaving a 3/4-inch border around the edges. Add 3 tablespoons of diced pineapple and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar.
5. Roll one edge of the wrapper towards the center. Fold in both sides and continue rolling. Moisten the edge with water to seal the lumpia.
6. Repeat with remaining spring roll wrappers.
7. Place lumpia on prepared baking sheet and freeze for 4 hours or overnight.
8. Preheat 1 inch of oil in a frying pan to 350°F. Fry lumpia for 3 minutes on each side, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
9. Roll in remaining sugar before serving.

This recipe has been converted from a larger quantity in the restaurant kitchens.
The flavor profile may vary from the restaurant’s version.
All recipes are the property of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc.,
and may not be reproduced without express permission.

Six Things for Couples to Enjoy Without Kids at Universal Orlando Resort

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Universal Orlando Resort may be known as a family destination, but with a handful of top-notch hotels and a diverse dining and bar scene, it’s also a place primed for couples. Headed there for your a special occasion or just a fun time out together? Here are six things that we think couples will enjoy without kids at Universal Orlando Resort.

Stay at the Hard Rock Hotel

Universal Orlando has five unique hotels to choose from (and a sixth coming in August). But the sexiest of all – and, perhaps more importantly, the one that seems to attract fewer small children – is the Hard Rock Hotel. With its music memorabilia-lined interior and sophisticated boutique vibe, it’s a rock ‘n roll getaway like nothing else.

The 12,000-square-foot pool has regular live music and is equipped with an underwater sound system. The Palm is a great spot for dinner, and the Velvet Bar appeals to the late night crowd looking for a libation or midnight snack. Big fan of rock ‘n roll? Check out “The Sound of Your Stay” program, where the hotel will loan you an electric guitar or bass to jam out during your stay, or let you borrow a turntable with a selection of records.

In between exploring the theme parks and enjoying the pool, you can browse the hotel’s music memorabilia, all artfully woven into the interior design plan.

Pro Tip: Plan your visit to overlap with the last Thursday of the month from January through October, then book your ticket for a Velvet Session. The lobby of the hotel is transformed into an intimate live music venue where world-famous bands come to play.

Get an Exclusive Tour of the Parks

Want to experience Universal Orlando  just the two of you with a private tour guide? Book a VIP Experience, and you’ll be assigned a personal guide to escort you through the parks. You’ll get exclusive perks like private entrances at attractions throughout Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure, gain insider information and see parts of Universal that many park-goers never get to see.

Pool Hop Around the Resort

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

If you’re staying on-site at one of the Universal Orlando’s hotels, you can use the other hotels’ amenities, too. Take advantage of that and spend the day hopping from hotel to hotel. Check out Loews Sapphire Falls Resort‘s water slide, Cabana Bay Beach’s 50s retro poolside fun, Loews Royal Pacific Resort‘s sparkling lagoon and the private, adults-only pool at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel.

Get Your Pamper On

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

What better way to signal you’re on a real vacation than checking into Mandara Spaat Loews Portofino Bay Hotel for a couples’ treatment? The Italian-inspired property conceals a 13,000-square-foot spa that’s outfitted with 14 private treatment rooms, two couples’ rooms, a hydro-therapy pool and more.

Go Out on the Town

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

One of the many perks of staying on-property at Universal Orlando is the easy access to Universal CityWalk, which is a quick stroll from the Hard Rock Hotel.

There, you can sip margaritas at Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food, indulge in a feast for your taste buds at The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen, and finish the night taking the stage at Rising Star, where a full band backs your karaoke efforts.

Embrace Your Inner Child

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

So you don’t have children? That doesn’t mean you can’t be the kid yourself – at least for a short time. You’re on vacation now: Lower your inhibitions, order that Waturi Fusion ice cream at Universal’s Volcano Bay and let loose while you soak up hours, if not days, of theme park fun with your significant other in tow.

Where to Find the Best Pizza at Disney World

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Most families love pizza and can usually agree on some cheesy goodness for dinner. Even on vacation, the kids may want some pizza for dinner. The good news is that you can find pizza just about anywhere at Walt Disney World parks and resorts! Here are some of our favorite places to get pizza at Disney World.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Walt Disney World Resort has some tasty pizzas – like at the popular Pizza Window at Disney’s BoardWalk. Connected to Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and just a short stroll from Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts and the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels, this delicious walk-up window serves classics like cheese and pepperoni, but you should also check out the BoardWalk Signature Pizza. This pizza comes loaded with Italian sausage, onions, peppers and balsamic glaze. The BoardWalk is also the perfect place sit back, relax and eat your pizza while you enjoy a breezy and sunny afternoon.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

At Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, the recently opened Ale & Compass Restaurant boasts some delicious New England-inspired Hearth Oven Pies, including a seasonal market vegetable pie, a caramelized leek and chorizo pie, and a white clam pie. And if you’re having breakfast here, you can also order a Breakfast Pie with a sunny side-up egg, house-made bacon, ham, provolone and arugula.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

If you’re at Epcot, it’s just a quick walk around the World Showcase to Italy, where you’ll find Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria. Here you can order authentic Neapolitan thin-crust pizza made with fresh mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes and real Caputo flour imported from Southern Italy.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

At Disney Springs, there’s now several different options to get your pizza fix! One being the popular Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza where you can order guest favorites like the Red Vine pizza with Ovalini mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, parmesan, basil, red sauce and olive oil drizzle, or the Green Stripe pizza with pesto drizzle over chicken, red peppers, garlic, mozzarella and arugula. You can also try the pizza at Wolfgang Puck Express, where you can even find breakfast pizzas with scrambled eggs, bacon, mozzarella, cheddar and caramelized onions in addition to their regular pizza menu. On the lunch and dinner menu, you’ll find unique and delicious options like the Pepperoni Pomodoro pizza with caramelized onions, basil and parmesan or the Chicken Meatball pizza with mushrooms, red onion and ricotta. Also at Disney Springs is the recently-opened Pizza Ponte, where you can find Sicilian-style pizza by the slice.

And that’s not even the beginning of all of the pizza you can find at Disney Parks! There are so many other options like Pizzafari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park or specialty pizzas at Trattoria al Forno at Disney’s BoardWalk. No matter where you are, you’re sure to find a pizza that’s just right for you.

Where do you like to order pizza at Disney World?

The kids’ suites sleep up to five with one king bed, two twin beds and an option for a rollaway bed. Mom and dad can have a little privacy, while kids can have some fun in their own attached themed room. Of course, we can’t forget the finger-lickin’ platters! Served with your choice of two sides and cornbread, there’s the Carved Beef Brisket Platter, the Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Platter, the Grilled Chicken Thighs Platter, and even a Vegetable Platter with a choice of four sides!

And there’s plenty of sides to choose from, like the Potato Salad with grilled onions and a serrano dressing or Creamy Coleslaw with red and green cabbage. There’s also Jalapeno Cheddar Corn Bread with honey chipotle butter, Mac and Cheese, Corn on the Cobb with cheese, Corn Fritters, paprika, lime, and cilantro, and BBQ Baked Beans. Or chow down on a fresh House Salad or Watermelon Salad.

In addition, for cowpokes ages 21 and over, these frontier food favorites can be paired with classic American beers and wines. Enjoy a traditional lager style beer or a robust Pinot Noir while you chow down on a plentiful platter of Carved Beef Brisket, Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork, or Grilled Chicken Thighs.
