(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Get ready for this year’s all-new Holidays at Universal Orlando Resort! From November 18, 2017 to January 6, 2018, Universal Orlando Resort will be bringing you more holiday cheer than ever before.

For the first time ever at Universal Orlando, you’ll be able to celebrate Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and I’m beyond excited. You’ll see Christmas decorations, garlands and lights as you walk through Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. There will even be special holiday-themed food and festive performances by the Frog Choir and Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees. At night, state-of-the-art projection mapping and lighting will illuminate the Hogwarts castle to bring Christmas moments inspired by the Harry Potter series to life.

The holiday spirit continues at Universal Studios Florida with a brand-new parade. Universal’s Holidays Parade featuring Macy’s will feature more than a dozen new festive balloons and 15 incredibly detailed floats – all designed exclusively for Universal Orlando. The parade will also include some of your favorite characters from Despicable Me, Madagascar, Shrek – and the jolly man himself, Santa Claus.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. You’ll also be able to:

  • Listen to Mannheim Steamroller as they take center stage on the Music Plaza Stage at Universal Studios on Nov. 18, 19, 25, 26 and Dec. 2, 3, 9, 10, 16 and 17.

  • Make a reservation for a festive Character Breakfast with the Grinch and his friends on select days. (separate purchase required, full details here)
  • Celebrate the New Year at Universal CityWalk’s EVE. As you countdown to midnight, you can dance on Orlando’s largest dance floor, enjoy live entertainment and savor endless dishes and signature drinks.

Top Ten Tips for Volcano Bay Water Park at Universal Orlando Resort

In case you are not aware, summer is here and I have the perfect way to beat the heat – Universal’s Volcano Bay.

The new water theme park is the perfect way to cool off with over 30 experiences including 18 water attractions such as winding and action rivers, two children play areas, an aqua coaster unlike any other, and plenty of pools and sandy beaches. And you can’t forget delicious food and refreshing beverages.

Since this may be your first time visiting Volcano Bay, you may be looking for some tips and tricks to experiencing the park. Look no further – here are 10 tips for Volcano Bay to help you maximize your visit.

1. Hop or Skip to Volcano Bay by Staying On-Site

By staying at one of Universal Orlando’s five on-site hotels, you can get to Volcano Bay quicker! From Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort you can walk right over on the walking path that takes you directly to the park entrance. Hop aboard our complimentary shuttles from our four other hotels Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific Resort and Loews Sapphire Falls Resort. An added bonus to staying on-site is Early Park Admission. This gives you exclusive access to Volcano Bay one hour before the park opens to day guests.

HINT: If you stay at Cabana Bay, try to grab a Volcano Side room at the new towers where you’ll get a beautiful view of the mighty Krakatau.

2. The Early Bird Gets the Best Beach Chair

This may be a no brainer, but the earlier you get to Volcano Bay the more you can jump on rides quicker. Plus, you can claim a prime spot on the beach of your choice as your home base for the day. #Winning

HINT: Want an even more epic spot on the beach? You can book a Private Cabana or Premium Seating. These options are very popular, so I recommend reserving them before you arrive by calling (877) 489-8068.

3. Head Towards the Back

It’s a known fact that people will naturally drift towards the first attractions they see. We recommend grabbing a spot in the back of the park when you first arrive. You’ll avoid the initial crowds near the front and get to the fun faster. Attractions near the back tend to have shorter wait times at the beginning of the day too!

HINT: As you’re making your way to the back to claim your spot, tap to save your ride time at one of the attractions along the way. That way, after you’ve grabbed your beach chair and applied the sunscreen, you can ride.

4. Items For Rent at Volcano Bay

If you have a large family and find yourself hauling a lot of gear into the park, have no fear! There are lockers for rent for cash or credit card throughout the entire park with three different sizes to store your things. I bet you already have a beach towel, but just in case you forget, there are towels available for rent. Your TapuTapu is technically rented for free, too, since you have to return it at the end of the day. ?

HINT: You can link up to four TapuTapus to your locker so the whole family can access it whenever they want.

5. Turn Your TapuTapu Into Your Wallet

If you would like to be able to take advantage of TapTu Pay at Volcano Bay, you can start setting up your account before you arrive through The Official Universal Orlando Resort App or online. You can link all of your party’s Volcano Bay tickets to the same account, and you can set up TapTu Pay by linking your credit card. Next step is to set up a pin number and boom – you’re all set to begin your adventure in Volcano Bay. You’ll receive your TapuTapu wearable at the park entrance when you arrive. Click here to learn more about TapuTapu.

HINT: TapTu Pay allows you to purchase merchandise, food and drinks with a simple tap of your wearable. An awesome benefit is the ability to set spending limits on your account. I know I’ll be taking advantage of this since I tend to get carried away with the shopping.

6. Thrills & Chills to Check Out While in Virtual Line

Here’s a quick snapshot to everything you can do while waiting in virtual line after you tapped into an attraction.

  • Ride the waves in the Waturi Beach wave pool
  • Discover all the TapTu Play effects throughout the park
  • Grab a tube and relax on the Kopiko Wai Winding River or take on the waves of TeAwa the Fearless River
  • Enjoy lunch or unique snacks such as a POG (a blend of Pineapple, Orange and Guava juices) or Waturi Fusion ice cream (made up of four different flavors!)
  • Play among the slides and water guns of the two kids areas Runamukka Reef and Tot Tiki Reef
  • Cool off in The Reef or Puka Uli Lagoon pools
  • Explore the gift shops for a fun souvenir to take home
  • If you’re 21+, try one of the Volcano Bay signature drinks at the two boat bars, Dancing Dragons and Kunuku

HINT: You’re in an island paradise when visiting Volcano Bay. Remember this is your time to relax and let the stress of everyday life drift away.

7. You Don’t Have to Ride Immediately…

…When your TapuTapu alerts you that your ride time has arrived. You can head over at your leisure. So, if it catches you in the middle of enjoying an Island Chicken Salad, you don’t have to wolf it down. Enjoy your meal!

HINT: You do have to ride that attraction before you tap into another attraction, unless you want to replace it. But why wouldn’t you want to ride?!

8. Keep a Look Out for “Ride Now!”

Your TapuTapu wearable allows you to virtually wait in line for one attraction at a time. As you’re exploring the park, keep an eye out for slides that say “Ride Now!” You’ll be able to jump right onto the ride without getting out of your virtual line. As I mentioned before, you can replace your ride time  with another ride if you’d like. All it takes is a simple tap.

HINT: More attractions will show “Ride Now!” if you arrive early in the morning or if you stay later near closing time.

9. Eat Early or Later

Restaurants are busier in the noon – 2pm hours… on second thought, you may already know that. If you can, try eating earlier or later to avoid crowds of hungry people. There are four dining locations and other food carts throughout the park and two bars to grab a refreshing beverage.

HINT: One of my favorite food finds in Volcano Bay is The Feasting Frog. Look for a frog-shaped structure in the Rainforest Village, where you can enjoy snacks like the Poke Poke Bowl or a Taco Sampler.

10. Ride Out the Rain

If you’re not a local, you may not know: it rains in Florida during the summer. So, when you see the clouds gathering, don’t pack up your things and leave. Just ride out the weather until it passes, which in Florida can be pretty quick. You’ll find wait times for attractions will shorten as people who aren’t as savvy as you leave. I would recommend taking cover and enjoying a drink, a bite to eat or doing some shopping.

HINT: You’re already in a water park. You’re already wet. Roll with it and enjoy a beverage.

If you’ve visited Universal’s Volcano Bay, you’re an honorary insider. Share your tips on enjoying the park in the comments below.

Why You Need to Plan a Fall Getaway at Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Why You Need to Plan a Fall Getaway at Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando

As the fall season approaches, you can see the responsibilities piling up before your tan lines even have time to fade. But what’s the best way to beat those “daily grind” blues? And more importantly, how to fit it into your crazy schedule?

An island getaway featuring: you, a drink, the beach, and our favorite volcano. Universal’s Volcano Bay is waiting for you.

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Come fall, summer temps make way for warm, breezy days. Perfect for a getaway at Volcano Bay without having to hide from the sun under an umbrella. So while your friends up north sip on hot cocoa as temperatures drop, post your picture-perfect drink on the beach photo and warm them up with some jealously.

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Trying to avoid crowds? Coming in the fall means avoiding peak season, which means more room to float in the Kopiko Wai Winding River. Not to mention shorter wait times for select attractions, with some that even offer a “RIDE NOW” option. Less crowds, less waiting, more ride now. Something tells me I don’t need to say anything more than that.

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

But before you start packing, I’ll go ahead and finish your itinerary. Volcano Bay is surrounded by five on-site hotelsUniversal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort—Volcano Bay’s closest neighbor—is home to a vibrant, retro-style theming that will have your nostalgia at an all-time high.

Plus, you can “leaf” the fall views behind for a view that cannot be beaten: the mighty Krakatau.

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Among its bowling alley, fire pits, and themed dining, this resort also boasts a walking path that will bring you straight to your island paradise. Plus, when you stay at any of our hotels, you can get into the parks one hour before the parks open and make the most of your time.

And while you’re here for your getaway, hop on over to Universal’s two other theme-parks: Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. These parks have more than enough fun and thrills to fill up the rest of your getaway. They say don’t run away from responsibilities, but what if you ride a roller coaster away from them?

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Finally, what’s a getaway without an escape from making dinner too? We’ve got you covered at Universal CityWalk, where you’ll find anything-but-ordinary dining experiences like The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar and The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen. Sit back, forget the pre-dinner tornado that happens at your house, and why NOT order another milkshake? After all, it is your getaway.

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

At Volcano Bay, fun in the sun doesn’t just stop after summer is over. A getaway is the perfect way to experience all that Universal Orlando Resort has to offer this fall.

So, while some of your friends will spend their fall watching leaves plummet to the ground, you can plummet 125 feet on the Ko’okiri Body Plunge.

Must be 21 years and older with valid identification to purchase or drink alcoholic beverages.

13 Things to Do at Volcano Bay Water Park at Universal Orlando Resort

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Picture this: You walk into Universal’s Volcano Bay and are instantly transported to a faraway Polynesian island. Your eyes light up as you realize 18 attractions are now yours to experience, and the best part is – you don’t have to stand in long lines to ride them.

With the power of TapuTapu, your wearable holds your place in line for you while you check off your must-do list of everything else this paradise has to offer. Here are 13 things to do at Volcano Bay with all the extra time you’ll have while not standing in long lines…

1. Hang out at Waturi Beach

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Volcano Bay’s Wave Village is home to Waturi Beach. Soak in the sun, swim, splash, and relax in sparkling waters and warm waves while the mighty Krakatau towers above.

2. Take a Stroll Through the Krakatau Volcano

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Take the walking path out over the wave pool and peer up at the mighty Krakatau Volcano as you walk through its rushing waters.  Just look at that view!

3. Float Down Kopiko Wai Winding River

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

In the River Village, you can find this waterway full of surprises. Take in the tropical landscape as a tube ride or as a relaxing float.

4. Grab a Bite to Eat

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

This is so far from your average water park food. Four world-class eateries all offer TapTu Pay to go with island-inspired dishes. Savor some slowly-smoked, glazed Hawaiian Ribs with boniato mash and sweet plantains. Or Coconut Curry Chicken made with braised chicken, green coconut curry sauce, white rice, sweet coconut and fresh cilantro. Or… well, I could go on, but it’s just going to make me more hungry.

5. Look for Ride Totems That Say “Ride Now”

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Just because you’ve registered one attraction on your TapuTapu wearable, doesn’t mean you can’t ride another if the ride’s totem instructs you to “Ride Now.” Feel free to head straight for the loading area without giving up your current return time.

6. Relax at Puka Uli Lagoon

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Located in the Rainforest Village, this lagoon features elements that will delight even the tiniest Waturi, like bongo drums and spraying water.

7. Test Your Nerve on TeAwa Fearless River

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Was that winding river too chill for you? Race along a roaring, watery stream of churning rapids and choppy waves on the Rainforest Village’s whitewater ride.

8. Let Your Kids Play at the Tot Tiki and Runamukka Reefs

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

With bubbling geysers, water guns, dump cups, tikis, whales, and small slides, these River Village favorites are the perfect place to take your little ones.

9. Enjoy a Drink

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

You know you’re on island time when you’re relaxing by the water with a cold beverage in your hand. And know that you’ll never lose your way, just look for the blue or red sails of Volcano Bay’s two unique bars to guide you.

10. Let TapuTapu Up Your Photo Game

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Use your TapuTapu wearable to tap any of the photo “selfie stations” throughout the park for picturesque views of you and your friends and family.

11. Shop For Your Next Bathing Suit or Souvenir

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

With its distinctive island feel, Volcano Bay merchandise is a great souvenir to take home with you. No matter where home is, picking some up will instantly transport you back to the tropics of Volcano Bay.

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Relax, unwind, and enjoy extra-comfy seating, concierge service with food delivery and more. These fill up fast, so be sure to check for availability and reserve one before you arrive.

13. Discover the Hidden Secrets of TapuTapu

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

Look for symbols like the one above throughout the entire park. When you find them, touch your TapuTapu wearable for surprises like sprays of water and lights.

While your TapuTapu holds your place in line for you at any of the 18 attractions in park, you can enjoy all of the experiences above.

Trick ‘r Treat, The Purge, and More Coming to Halloween Horror Nights 2017

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

There is one aspect of Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 2017 that no one can escape… the SCARE ZONES. They’re the first and last things you’ll experience at Halloween Horror Nights 2017, and there is no way to hide from the scares.

This Halloween Horror Nights 2017, you can join the celebration of blood and bone at what can only be called The Festival of the Deadliest – an ancient tradition from the depths of where nightmares are born.

A gathering of the most unearthly, hellish terrors has emerged from the darkest corners of despair. It calls to those who long for the thrill of the scare and wish to have their fears made real. You’ll be drawn like moths to a flame, and once you join this hallowed celebration, your nightmares will never end.

You’ll find the heart of the Festival on the streets of Hollywood in Universal Studios Florida, but its claws have spread throughout Horror Nights. Here’s what awaits you every night…

Trick ‘r Treat

First up, it’s time to make sure everyone understands the rules of the haunted holiday. Get a proper Halloween education in the Central Park scare zone inspired by the film Trick ‘r TreatWe’re excited to have Sam visit and make sure we follow the rules of Halloween.

(Photo: Universal Orlando Resort Blog)

In this zone, you’ll have the opportunity to come face-to-face with several characters from the film, and learn for yourself what happens when you don’t follow the rules.

The Purge

Next up, there is a returning story to the New York streets with The Purge. This time, the approach was to create a zone that showed how the events of a Purge night might play out in the streets.

There are some fan favorites returning such as the auction and a very polite gentleman. There will also be some new surprises in store. For example, how do you clean up all the mayhem on the streets during a Purge night? Visit the clean-crew up crew with their trusty wood chipper to find out. Just don’t get too close…

Altars of Horror

Near the front gate, on Avenue of the Stars, you will find Altars of Horror. This zone is exciting because it will bring something to the streets for horror fans that Universal has never done before.

In this zone, some of the larger than life characters featured in this year’s houses will have their own scare zone. A lot of work goes into bringing these iconic film characters to life in the houses. Now you’ll have the opportunity to get an even better look at them.

Invasion!

Set in a time decades ago, the docks in San Francisco find themselves the victim of an INVASION! Visitors from far beyond have crashed their vessel, and are now wreaking havoc on the streets of San Francisco.

They aren’t just here to destroy; these invaders are also on a mission to learn everything they can about us humans. Careful, or you may find yourself on the experiment table at the mercy of an alien scientist.

Roaming Hordes

Lastly, no Halloween Horror Nights would be complete without roaming hordes. This time, it’s the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the chainsaw. Unhappy with how popular culture has made clowns scary, this grotesque gang of gigglers has risen from the grave determined to show the world that if you want scary clowns, they’re going to make sure you get your worst nightmare.

ACADEMY OF VILLAINS: AFTERLIFE

But wait! There’s more. The question is, “can you handle more?” The ACADEMY OF VILLAINS: AFTERLIFE will be returning to put on an all-new killer performance. This group of powerhouse artists will make you bear witness to what happens after we leave this life. They’re going to give you one mind-blowing and shocking dance performance that will escort you from this world to the great beyond.

As you can see, the streets will be alive with plenty of horror, mayhem and celebration at Halloween Horror Nights 2017! Be sure to purchase your tickets or book your vacation package today!

How to Send Mail from Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando

One of my favorite spots inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—Hogsmeade at Universal Orlando Resort is somewhat of a hidden gem, Owl Post. This fun and unique shop can be found next to Ollivanders wand shop in the middle of Hogsmeade.

Inside Owl Post, you can find a variety of stationery and writing implements like feathered quills and beautiful parchments. You will also find some beautiful owl plushes and other gifts. A fan favorite is always this cute Hedwig plush.

owl-post-2

In addition to finding some great souvenirs, one of the coolest experiences at Owl Post is mailing a letter with a special Hogsmeade postmark!

Here’s how you do it:

First, choose your stationery and write down all of the adventures you’ve had and memories you’ve made so far in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Next you pick your choice of stamp for your letter. I love the ones with the beautiful shot of Hogwarts castle.

owl-post-1

Once you’re ready to mail your letter, you’ll receive a special Hogsmeade stamp on your envelope before you hand it off for delivery.

Next time you’re in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, be sure to share your own adventures with family and friends by mailing a letter from Owl Post.

Would you like to receive mail from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter before your next visit? You can send us a self- addressed envelope and we will return it to you straight from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Every trip to Universal Orlando Resort should be full of riding roller coasters, character meet-and-greets, eating ice cream, and nonstop adventures. But after the miles of walking and navigating the theme parks, one of the best things about your visit will be coming back to your on-site hotel.

Loews Sapphire Falls Resort is Universal Orlando’s newest on-site hotel and is Caribbean-inspired. If you have a great love for island living, you will be taken to paradise as soon as you step through the door of you room.

At Sapphire Falls, there isn’t a shortage of activities, and you can easily spend an entire day at the hotel, because of all the amenities available.

The best place to cool off from the Florida heat is the pool. It’s a gorgeous 16,000 square foot pool, complete with a water slide, sand area and private cabanas (for an additional charge).

Depending on the day’s activity schedule, you may even catch a ping-pong tournament or a nighttime movie showing. There is always something going on, so be sure to check with the concierge during your visit.

Plus, if you get hungry, you can head to Drhum Club Kantine, the hotel’s poolside bar. It’s the perfect place to stop for a drink or snack while getting your tan on!

In addition to Drhum Club Kantine, the hotel has several dining options. New Dutch Trading Co. is a quick-service café, whereas Amatista Cookhouse is a sit-down restaurant with an extensive menu. Room service is also available 24 hours in case you’re craving something at 3AM.

Amatista Cookhouse offers a delicious menu, but some guest favorites are the margherita pizza (and french fries!), finished with a slice of chocolate cake for dessert.

Although you can easily spend most of your “hotel days” swimming and tanning in the pool area, if you would rather spend the afternoon in air-conditioning, the Calypso Game Room is the best place to be!

You can even fit in a workout if you don’t want your exercise routine to take a vacation. Kalina Health and Fitness Center is the full-service gym at Sapphire Falls. Plus, there are various walking and jogging paths that wind around the hotel. Whether you’re using the cardio machines in the gym or going on a run around the resort, you’ll be able to get your sweat on.

The internet at Sapphire Falls is super fast and reliable, and it’s complimentary for up to four devices per room.

Another benefit of staying at an on-site hotel is Early Park Admission to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Being able to visit one hour before the theme park opens to the public is immensely helpful and will maximize your experience at Hogwarts!

As for getting there? No worries. There is complimentary transportation from Loews Sapphire Falls Resort to Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal CityWalk.

You have the choice between a shuttle bus or a water taxi. While both are efficient, I recommend the water taxi (or as I like to call it: the mini cruise). It’s an enchanting ride, especially at night!

The tropical atmosphere, endless activities, and savory meals at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort are pure bliss. Are you planning a trip to Universal Orlando Resort soon? Think about booking at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort.

Stay on property to get Early Park Admission

All guests staying at our on-site hotels get Early Park Admission, which means access to one theme park and popular attractions (see below) an hour before the scheduled opening.

So head over to your favorite rides before the rush. This is a great time to ride again and again to make sure you don’t miss a moment.

Universal Studios Florida

  • Despicable Me Minion Mayhem
  • Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

Universal’s Island of Adventure

  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
  • Dragon Challenge
  • Flight of the Hippogriff

Universal’s Volcano Bay

  • Volcano Bay rides, slides and attractions are available during Early Park Admission.

Ask if you can have the seat you want

Whether you’re #TeamFrontRow or #TeamBackRow, let the Team Member in charge of on-boarding know and you might get to sit in your preferred location.

Stay on property to get free Universal Express Access

You’re going to want to take advantage of this one. Three of Universal Orlando’s on-site hotels offer free Express access for everyone in your party. Skip the regular lines at all participating rides and attractions and get to the fun faster.

Pay attention to the queues

Waiting in line is no longer about waiting. While queueing for rides, take in all the amazing details around you. Queues like Skull Island: Reign of Kong and Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon contain surprises and entertainment that you won’t want to miss.

Plan to work against the crowds

Starting your day at the back of the park can go a long way. Most guests will enter through the front gates and head to the nearest attraction, so you can do the opposite and reap the benefits.

Take advantage of the single rider line

If you’re looking to save some time, another great option is to use the single rider line. You and your party will be separated while loading into the ride vehicle, but it’s usually a much shorter wait than the regular queue.

Jam out to the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit hidden songs menu

When you first get on the ride, hold down the Rockit logo on the song selection screen for about 10 seconds when you first get on the ride to bring up a number keypad. Enter a 3-digit value to select a hidden track and prepare for a whole new ride experience.
