What You Need to Know About Magic Bands at Disney World

magic bands and cards

A hot topic in the Disney World vacation planning community is Disney’s billion-dollar investment, MyMagic+. The cornerstone of this technology is Magic Bands so we wanted to share with you all that you need to know about magic bands at Disney World and the role they will play in your next vacation.

First of all, magic bands are only available to guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. For every vacation that you plan to stay on-site, each member of your family will receive a magic band.

Each magic band can be customized with a name inside as well as a color. You can choose from red, yellow, green, gray, orange, blue, or pink. After you have customized all of your magic bands, Disney will ship them approximately 30 days before your vacation begins.

If you are flying into the Orlando International Airport, you will want to be sure that you pack your magic bands in your carry on or wear them because you will scan them to board Disney’s Magical Express to your resort.

Now, you may be wondering what you magic band can do. Your magic band will serve as your room key, theme park ticket, dining credits, room charging privileges, FastPass selections, and more!

In order to use your magic band for purchases or dining credits, you will need to enter a 4-digit pin that you previously created.

If you lose your magic band, you can immediately deactivate it on your My Disney Experience account and request a new one at any guest relations location.

Have you tried the new magic bands at Disney World yet? What did you think?

Top Five Tips for Using My Disney Experience

With the MyMagic+ test fully implemented at the theme parks and resorts, there are still a lot of questions about using it and planning your trip. By the end of January, all of the traditional paper FastPass machines will be removed from all four theme parks, with FastPass+ being used exclusively.

Tip #1: Once you have booked a Walt Disney World vacation, it’s important that you go to StartYourDisneyExperience.com right away. Once you have linked your reservation, you will be able to use the itinerary tool, My Disney Experience.

Tip #2: Download the My Disney Experience app for your smart phone. You will be able to view and modify your dining reservations and FastPass+ selections right from your phone throughout your trip with this handy app. You can also view wait times for popular attractions as well as theme park maps.

Tip #3: Only the primary guest (or first guest name on the reservation) should link the reservation on StartYourDisneyExperience.com. It’s also important that he/she use the same first and last name (spelled exactly the same) as the confirmation name in their profile. You will have an opportunity to use your nickname or preferred name later, when personalizingMagicBands.

Tip #4: Only the primary guest (or first guest name on the reservation) should set up their children in the “Family & Friends” section of the My Disney Experience site.

Tip #5: You will receive a MagicBand for each new reservation you make at the Walt Disney World Resort. If you have a MagicBand from a past stay, you may choose to use that MagicBand during your upcoming trip (unless it has been deactivated on the My Disney Experience site).
