Seven Rare Disney Characters in Happily Ever After to Try to Spot

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

One of the things I love about “Happily Ever After,” the new nighttime spectacular at Magic Kingdom Park, is the surprising number of “rare” Disney characters you can spot in the show. And by “rare,” I mean those characters you love but rarely see elsewhere in the parks.

Thanks to the projection technology of this beautiful new show, characters like the Emperor and Shan-Yu from “Mulan”; Syndrome and his Omni-Bot from “The Incredibles”; and WALL-E and EVE from “WALL-E” all have special moments in the show.

Here are seven rare Disney characters in Happily Ever After that I’m sure you’ll be delighted to find in this new nighttime spectacular.

Remy from “Ratatouille” – At one point during “Happily Ever After,” the castle is transformed into Gusteau’s, the restaurant mentioned in the film, with Remy overlooking a Parisian landscape in the distance.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Joy & Sadness from “Inside Out” – This duo appears when the castle appears to be stacked – and then flooded – with colorful memory orbs.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Hiro & Baymax from “Big Hero 6” – This crime-fighting genius and his BFF, Baymax, appear to make an impressive blast off from Cinderella Castle.

Ralph & Vanellope from “Wreck It Ralph” – The gaming duo, Ralph and Vanellope, appear when the castle is wrapped in a candy motif. (Note the castle clock in the picture above, which has transformed into a mint).

“Happily Ever After” is performed nightly at Magic Kingdom Park. For the latest showtimes and information, be sure to check your My Disney Experience app or the park’s Times Guide on the day of your visit.

Five Fun Facts about Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Perhaps one of the lesser known characters at Walt Disney World Resort is Sonny Eclipse, Magic Kingdom Park’s resident lounge singer, at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe.

The “biggest little star in the galaxy” has been entertaining guests at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park since 1995. Guests can catch his 27-minute set of tunes – and wisecracks – multiple times a day while they dine.

Here are five fun facts about the one and only Sonny Eclipse:

1. Sonny’s instrument is an Astro-Organ – The “out-of-this world” instrument he uses for accompaniment is a glowing keyboard-like creation called an Astro-Organ.
2. His hometown is Yew Nork City on Planet Zork – Sonny describes his hometown as a “topsy-turvy town where the subways are up and the streets are down.”
3. Sonny’s repertoire features only original songs – Sonny’s set includes eight original songs, including “Planetary Boogie,” “Bright Little Star,” “Space Angels” “Gravity Blues” and more. The songs were co-created by Walt Disney Imagineering and composer George Wilkens, who had previously written and arranged music for the Food Rocks attraction at Epcot and the “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience” pre-show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
4. Sonny loves jokes – Sonny incorporates many jokes into his act – the cornier the better! (“You know, I recently heard the universe was expanding. Guess it’s time to loosen the asteroid belt!”).
5. Sonny has three backup singers – Sonny is backed by an invisible trio known as the Space Angels.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

While most of these treats are exclusive to the party, there are three items that will be available daily through Dec. 22. The first one is a holiday cinnamon roll. This Mickey-shaped treat is decorated with red and green icing as well as a white chocolate snowflake. The second item available daily is a peppermint cupcake – a red velvet cupcake filled with peppermint mousse and topped with cream cheese, buttercream, peppermint sprinkles and peppermint bark. Both of these can be found at the Main Street Bakery. And the third item – a peppermint ice cream sundae available at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor and Storybook Treats.

Exclusive to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the rest of this list is sure to satisfy your seasonal sweet tooth, starting with some tasty Yule Log desserts! You’ll find the first at the Main Street Bakery; this Yule Log consists of white chocolate mousse, raspberry mousse, cassis pate de fruit and chocolate flourless cake. It comes covered with a red glaze, striped with white chocolate and topped with a garnish featuring Mickey and Minnie. The next Yule Log is at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café, a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and ganache featuring Chip and Dale and Donald Duck. And what’s more– both of these Yule Log desserts are gluten-friendly.

He’s filled his dessert with layers of orange vanilla cake, cranberry cherry mousse, white crispy pearls, cream cheese buttercream and holiday sprinkles. It’s also topped with a chocolate piece featuring none other than Sandy Claws, himself! And that’s not all, Sleepy Hollow will also be serving up decadent red velvet Mickey waffles with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and holiday sprinkles.

Finally, if you’re looking to get your egg nog fix, then look no further than Storybook Treats, where you’ll find an egg nog custard dessert, topped with spiced chocolate cake, meringue and an edible Scrooge McDuck gold coin.

Eight New Desserts Available at the Happily Ever After Dessert Party

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

A sweet way to end the day in Magic Kingdom Park just got sweeter, with new desserts and a second location for viewing the Magic Kingdom Park “Happily Ever After” fireworks spectacular. You can book the Happily Ever After dessert party to enjoy these sweet treats and a reserved viewing area for the fireworks.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Based on your preference, you can choose from two viewing areas: Plaza Garden Viewing (if you want to better see the castle projections) and Tomorrowland Terrace (where there’s reserved and covered seating).

And those new desserts! Here’s a peek at the 10 desserts included with the Happily Ever After dessert party, where all but two are new:

  • A Villains Chocolate Cupcake inspired by Ursula with purple buttercream and chocolate crispy pearls.
  • Pineapple Delight is a Dole Whip-inspired treat, light and fresh with whipped pineapple panna cotta with pineapple compote and a fresh pineapple spear.
  • Chocolate Dipped Strawberries – dark chocolate, of course, are back.
  • Chocolate Marshmallow Tart salutes Frontierland with a reimagined s’more: a graham cracker tart with chocolate custard topped with marshmallow meringue and a chocolate bar.
  • Macarons, a sweet nod to Gaston’s Tavern in Fantasyland in flavors such as pistachio, raspberry, lemon, chocolate, coffee and vanilla.
  • The bold Cheesecake Brownie Bite is in honor of the heroes in “Happily Ever After,” with a brownie topped with chocolate chip cheesecake and whipped cream. Add a drizzle of chocolate and more chocolate chips. This one is a repeat and guest favorite.
  • Strawberry Tart inspiration comes from Main Street, U.S.A., an all-American dessert with a vanilla tart shell filled with lemon curd and raspberry sauce. Add a little strawberry mousse, strawberry crisp pearls and a little whipped cream with a fresh berry.
  • The “Happily Ever After” Cupcake is the signature dessert – red velvet cake with yellow buttercream icing.
  • Perfect for Instagramming with a “Happily Ever After” chocolate garnish.
  • Chocolate Almond Cake features raspberry sauce in the center and a fresh raspberry on top.
  • And Mickey is the muse for the Oreo Mickey Treat, whipped Oreo panna cotta topped with two chocolate ears and sprinkled with chocolate pearls on top of an Oreo.

For reservations, go to www.DisneyWorld.com/dining or call 407-WDW-DINE. Cost is $59 for Plaza Garden viewing ($35 ages 3 to 9); Tomorrowland Terrace is $79, $47 ages 3 to 9. Both include tax but not gratuity. Separate Magic Kingdom Park admission is required. The fireworks experience may be changed or canceled without prior notice.
