Holidays at the Disneyland Resort brings magical entertainment, sparkling décor, festive foods, specialty merchandise and of course, seasonal attractions! From now through Jan. 6, 2020, enjoy Disney magic with friends and family on attractions themed especially for the holidays. There are four Disneyland attractions with holiday overlays that you won’t want to miss this season!

Over in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure park, the residents are racing to celebrate the season. Two attractions rely on holiday magic to celebrate the haul-idays:

  • Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl – Luigi and his extended family of roadsters are celebrating the season in style. Take a seat and take a merry spin as the cars cruise to festive tunes, including “We Wish You Season’s Speedings,” “Joy To The Whirl,” “Jolly Joyous Santa Car,” “Carol Of The Horns” and “Jingle Bells.”
  • Mater’s Jingle Jamboree – This haul-iday tractor spins through a festively decorated junkyard. Mater croons classic holiday tunes, including “Christmas In Radiator Springs,” “Mater’s Jingle Jamboree,” “Radiator Rockin’ Holiday,” “The Gifts of the Mater” and “Tractors, Tractors, Tractors.”

In Disneyland park, two popular attractions also transform just for the season:

  • “it’s a small world” Holiday – The beloved attraction takes you around the world and back as dolls and toys representing children enjoy the distinctive holiday traditions of their countries. In the evenings, the attraction’s facade twinkles with 50,000-plus colorful lights, music and video projections.
    • AP Bonus: Annual Passholders can enjoy an extra hour at “it’s a small world” Holiday after park closing on Nov. 18-22 (Nov. 18-21 starting at 10 p.m. and Nov. 22 starting at midnight), as well as a special photo opportunity. Blockout dates apply.
  • Haunted Mansion Holiday – ‘Twas “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and all through the Haunted Mansion, Jack Skellington and his friends are causing a collision between Christmas and Halloween. Enjoy the frightfully festive décor and familiar characters from the classic film, including Sally, Zero and Oogie Boogie.
    • AP Bonus: Annual Passholders can enjoy an extra hour at Haunted Mansion Holiday after park closing on Dec. 9-11 (Dec. 9 and 11 starting at midnight and Dec. 10 starting at 11 p.m.). Blockout dates apply.

Top Six Things to Do on a Rainy Day at Disneyland Resort

From the Disney Parks Blog:

Photo: Disney Parks Blog

A little rain should never put a damper on a day of fun at the Disneyland Resort. In fact, it can be a great time to explore and enjoy the parks. Here are a few tips to ensure you make the most out of a rainy day at Disneyland Resort.

Prepare for the weather. It’s a good idea to wear comfortable, warm clothing. I also recommend wearing water-resistant footwear, and packing an extra pair of socks! If rain catches you by surprise, many Disneyland Resort merchandise locations offer ponchos and umbrellas. If you don’t see them on the shelves, just ask a cast member.

Enjoy favorite indoor attractions. There are numerous indoor attractions that are not only fun, but also keep you dry! My favorites are Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland park and Soarin’ Around the World in Disney California Adventure park. Check out the full list of indoor attractions on Disneyland.com.

Go again (and again). Rainy days can also mean more opportunities to ride favorite attractions! Be sure to check the Disneyland App for attraction wait times and other information.

Time to dine. Make a dining reservation and enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner with magical touches! Feast on Cajun and Creole cuisine at the charming Blue Bayou at Disneyland park or partake in a special character dining experience at Storytellers Cafe in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Dining reservations can be made via the Disneyland App, Disneyland.com or by calling (714) 781-DINE.

Catch a show. Cozy up in one of our theaters and experience great entertainment. I always love sitting back and enjoying “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” in Disney California Adventure park or encountering Honest Abe in the classic Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln in Disneyland park!

Shop for Disney souvenirs. Take your time to explore World of Disney, the ultimate shopping destination at the Downtown Disney District. The store’s reimagined layout features uniquely themed areas showcasing the hottest Disney merchandise—you could be there for hours! While in Downtown Disney District, I also recommend immersing yourself in a hyper-reality adventure at The VOID, choosing either Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire or Ralph Breaks VR.

From the Disney Parks Blog:

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

“A very merry un-birthday to you!” Guests from around the world celebrate birthdays (and un-birthdays) every day at the Disneyland Resort. Here are five magical ways to celebrate a birthday at Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth:

1. Start Early. Staying at one of the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort? Kick off the festivities from the moment you arrive at the hotel with in-room celebration goodies. Available gift baskets include a colorful birthday-themed pair of Disney Ear Hats to wear throughout your visit.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

2. Snag Souvenirs. Take a magical memory of your birthday trip home with you. Complimentary “Happy Birthday” and other celebratory buttons are available at City Hall in Disneyland park or Guest Services in Disney California Adventure park.* In addition, autograph books are an excellent way to request and collect special birthday messages from your favorite characters. *Valid theme park admission is required.

3. Dine with Friends. For a magical dining experience, book a dining reservation with a few of your favorite friends. For breakfast, enjoy your morning meal in the company of Disney characters at Plaza Inn in Disneyland park, Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, or PCH Grill at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel serves up playfully fun food and character encounters for breakfast and dinner.

4. Make a Wish. What’s a birthday without a cake? Order a custom birthday cake for delivery to select table service restaurants around the resort. Once you choose your favorite theme, place your order in advance and enjoy! Disneyland Resort Hotel guests can also have cakes delivered to their rooms.

5. Sing Along. Head over to Mad Tea Party in Disneyland park to take a spin on the tea cups and sing along to “A Very Merry Un-Birthday.” For continued musical fun, meet the Jambalaya Jazz Band in New Orleans Square and request a performance of “Happy Birthday” in addition to their catchy American classics.

Seven Reasons to Plan a Holiday Vacation at a Disneyland Resort Hotel

There’s nothing quite like the spending the holidays in the merriment and magic of Disneyland Resort – and making the most of it by staying in one of three on-property hotels. Here are seven sparkling ways you can make memories with your family and friends this holiday season, now through January 6, 2019:

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Christmas Trees, Décor and More: The Craftsman-inspired décor at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa extends to the holiday decorations, from natural garlands to the towering Christmas tree lit with “arts and crafts” lanterns. The midcentury Disneyland Hotel receives a retro-holiday look with silver trees and bright colors. The nautical theming at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel features blue, green and silver holiday décor—along with shells and starfish garland—to create a seaside holiday setting.

“Grand” Gingerbread House and Holiday Treats: A highlight at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the giant gingerbread replica of the hotel, right in the lobby. Standing 7 feet tall and 12 feet wide, the structure is created from more than 600 pounds of gingerbread, 600 pounds of powdered sugar, 250 pounds of fondant, 1 pound of “pixie dust” glitter and features 25 hidden Mickeys! Nearby, you may purchase sweet treats such as Mickey snowflake cookies from the lobby’s holiday cart.

Santa Claus and Carolers: This year, Santa will visit each hotel from November 22 through December 24. Hotel guests are encouraged to meet, greet and take a seat with St. Nick! Also delightful are the joyful sounds of vocal performers and holiday carolers strolling throughout the holiday season at each resort hotel.*

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Extra Magic Hour: With easy, convenient access to both parks, guests staying at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort will make the most of their visit with Extra Magic Hour admission with their valid theme park ticket. Extra Magic Hour offers admission to a designated theme park one hour earlier than the general public, and is only available for guests who stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotel. **

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Christmas Trees Delivered In Room: Parents, you can enlist Santa’s secret helpers to bring the spirit of the season right to your hotel room, surprising the kids with a 4-foot, pre-lit Christmas tree, holiday décor and gift baskets with candy canes, gingerbread-flavored popcorn and frosted pretzels. Afterward, the family’s tree—including all the ornaments—can be shipped home.***

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Holiday Shopping: Gift shops at each hotel offer unique Disney treasures. Additional shopping is just steps from the hotels at the Downtown Disney District, a destination of its own with dining, entertainment and retail options. A must-visit site for Disney fans is the newly reimagined, 40,000 square-foot World of Disney. This store was redesigned to make shopping even easier and more entertaining with touches of pixie dust in the displays and merchandise collections. Other favorite boutiques are the Disney Home store and The Disney Dress Shop, which opened in 2018. Other shopping destinations include Sephora, PANDORA Jewelry and Curl Surf.

Vacation Values: It’s a season of savings with up to 25 percent off select rooms at Hotels of the Disneyland Resort for select Sunday-Thursday nights through December 20, 2018. Guests can save up to 20 percent on standard rooms and 25 percent on premium rooms at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa; up to 15 percent on standard rooms and 20 percent on premium rooms at Disneyland Hotel, and up to 10 percent on premium rooms at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. Book through December 16, 2018. To find out more, please visit disneylandresort.com.

Top Ten Cold Snacks at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Southern California is warm and sunny most of the year – so it’s almost always the perfect season for some cold snacks at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park! Here are the top 10 best cold snacks at Disneyland Resort.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

10. Bifrosties – Behind Schmoozies at Disney California Adventure park, Bifrosties is serving up flavored shaved ice…but only during Summer of Heroes, which ends September 10. My favorite is Spider Venom (blue raspberry and cherry with condensed milk)!

9. Caprese on Focaccia Bread – Tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, lettuce, citrus aioli, basil vinaigrette and balsamic glaze combine on delicious focaccia bread for a satisfying summer lunch at Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe in Disneyland park.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

8. Lobster Roll – If you haven’t yet found this gem at Harbour Galley in Critter Country, you are missing out! Chilled lobster salad is served on a toasted, buttered roll for a filling – but not too filling – meal.

7. Gourmet Cheese Plate and Cold Cut Plate – Enjoy these nibbles with a chilled glass of Chardonnay at Sonoma Terrace in Disney California Adventure park for a relaxing afternoon.

6. Flo’s Classic Chocolate Shake – I love a chocolate milkshake, especially when it’s topped with “Road Gravel.” And Flo’s V8 Cafe has one of my favorite outdoor dining locations in all of Disneyland Resort, where you can chill out in the shade with your shake and a spectacular view of the Cadillac Mountain Range.

5. Fanta Orange Float – Two Scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream plus Fanta Orange soda equals heaven in a cup. Creamy, refreshing and colorful, this drink always has other guests asking me, “What’s that?!” That’s when I point them in the direction of Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street, U.S.A.

4. Ahi Poke – You can find this traditional Hawaiian dish at a variety of locations throughout Disney California Adventure park, but I’m recommending Tangaroa Terrace at Disneyland Hotel as a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks. Order up a serving and sit in the outside dining area, overlooking the retro-themed pools and waterslides.

3. World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae – At Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, I ask for mine with a scoop of Cookies ‘n Cream and a scoop of Cookie Dough ice cream.

2. Cobb Salad – Hands down, without question, the Cobb Salad at Plaza Inn on Main Street, U.S.A., is my favorite salad. Not just at the Disneyland Resort – anywhere. I don’t know if it’s some magic with the salad itself or the iconic location, but in my opinion, you can’t beat it.

1. Boysen Apple Freeze – Sharing the top spot with Red’s Apple Freeze (its cousin at Disney California Adventure park), Boysen Apple Freeze wins the top spot for me because it is refreshing and a bit lighter – made with frozen apple juice, a hint of wild berry and topped with passion fruit foam.

What are your favorite cold snacks at Disneyland Resort on a hot day?

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

As Disney Parks Chairman Bob Chapek announced at the D23 Expo in August, Disneyland Resort guests are invited to celebrate their favorite Disney·Pixar stories during Pixar Fest. Beginning April 13, 2018, this limited-time celebration of friendship and beyond will feature the debut of an all-new fireworks spectacular and the return of two favorite parades as well as even more beloved Pixar characters, new décor, atmosphere entertainment, themed food and beverage and new merchandise items.

“Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” will light up Disneyland park beginning April 13. In addition to dazzling pyrotechnics and memorable music, the theme of friendship, ever-present in most Pixar films, is celebrated in this nighttime spectacular. Guests are invited to embark on an emotional journey that starts when unlikely Pixar characters first meet. As they set out on adventures and overcome obstacles together, “Together Forever” celebrates the everlasting friendships forged by beloved Pixar pals. The story comes to life through projections on iconic park locations: Sleeping Beauty Castle, the water screens of the Rivers of America, the façade of “it’s a small world” and the buildings of Main Street, U.S.A. This nighttime spectacular will even feature a special flyover by Buzz Lightyear at Sleeping Beauty Castle.

‘CARS’ CHARACTERS ‘PAINT THE NIGHT’ (ANAHEIM, Calif.)— Mack from the Disney●Pixar ‘Cars’ films is one of the characters featured in this all-new new after-dark spectacular at Disneyland park inspired by the iconic ‘Main Street Electrical Parade.’ ‘Paint the Night’ is full of vibrant color and more than 1.5 million, brilliant LED lights and features special effects, unforgettable music, and energetic performances that bring beloved Disney and Disney●Pixar stories to life. Celebrating 60 years of magic, ‘Paint the Night’ is one of three new nighttime spectaculars which will immerse guests in the worlds of Disney stories like never before. The Diamond Celebration at the Disneyland Resort begins Friday, May 22, 2015.

Also on April 13, the popular “Paint the Night” parade will return, this time to Disney California Adventure park. The parade features many Pixar stories, including characters from “Toy Story,” “Monsters, Inc.” and “Cars,” and another Pixar story will join “Paint the Night” parade later in the year.

With the launch of Pixar Fest, “Pixar Play Parade” will make its way through Disneyland park for the first time. The parade will begin as most Pixar films have, with an appearance by the iconic and adorable Pixar lamp. Other new parade elements will feature characters from “UP” and “Inside Out.”

The Pixar Shorts film festival will feature rotating favorites such as “For the Birds” and “Lava” at the Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land in Disney California Adventure park throughout most of Pixar Fest. The Paradise Gardens area will feature a new Pixar-themed musical troupe along with Pixar character greeting opportunities as well as crafts and activities for our younger guests.

Guests can get into character and celebrate friendship with a host of new merchandise, including an exclusive Pixar Fest charm bracelet. With multiple bracelet options and a variety of charms with fun friendship messages and favorite Pixar characters, guests can mix and match for themselves, or friends and family!

All of these exciting new experiences come in addition to the many attractions and entertainment throughout the Disneyland Resort that include your favorite Pixar characters. Join the celebration when Pixar Fest begins April 13, 2018!

Halloween Time 2017 at Disneyland to Expand to Disney California Adventure

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Halloween Time 2017 at the Disneyland Resort is growing with more frightful fun! This year, you can get into the spooky spirit at Disney California Adventure park, with all-new ghoulish delights at Cars Land and on Buena Vista Street.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Cars Land will get all gussied up with four-wheeled frights as the citizens of Radiator Springs don their Halloween costumes and decorate their homes to celebrate Haul-O-Ween. From Fillmore’s Jack-Oil Lanterns and Flo’s Spider-Car to Witchy Miss Lizzie’s shop, everybody’s doing all they can to turn Radiator Springs into Radiator Screams! Guests will experience some of their favorite Cars Land attractions in new ways as Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree becomes Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters transforms into Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween.

On Buena Vista Street, a spell will be cast with new Halloween decor all along this stylish thoroughfare inspired by “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Oogie Boogie has risen from the shadows to take over Disney California Adventure park, and his oversized silhouette beckons guests through the main entrance as a swarm of bats encircle Carthay Circle Theatre.

At Disneyland park, the famous Pumpkin Festival will greet guests as they make their way down Main Street, U.S.A., on their way to the eerily magical Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy attractions. Also at Disneyland park, the popular Mickey’s Halloween Party returns! Tickets to the private Mickey’s Halloween Party, featuring special entertainment and trick-or-treating at locations throughout Disneyland park are now available. Tickets may be purchased online and on mobile devices at Disneyland.com/party as well as at the Disneyland Resort main gate and by phone at 714-781-4400. Please click here for event dates and ticket prices.

New this year for Mickey’s Halloween Party guests, Disney California Adventure park will be featured for the first time as part of the pre-party mix-in. Early arrivals will be able to visit both theme parks for three hours prior to the party launch in Disneyland park. Also new this year, admission to Mickey’s Halloween Party will include complimentary Disney PhotoPass downloads.

Mickey’s Halloween party features special entertainment, including Disney characters – Disney villains as well as Mickey Mouse and friends — and the Cadaver Dans ghostly quartet performing on the Rivers of America. An extra special treat is the “Halloween Screams” fireworks spectacular, a Mickey’s Halloween Party tradition presented exclusively for party guests. Also exclusive to Mickey’s Halloween Party is the “Frightfully Fun Parade,” led by The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow (from the Disney animated classic “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad”).

There is so much to see during this year’s expanded Halloween Time 2017 at the Disneyland Resort! What are you most excited to experience?

Mickey’s Halloween Party tickets are subject to availability and are valid only for specific event dates and hours. Space is limited.
