From the Disney Parks Blog:

Aboard each of Disney Cruise Line’s cruises, Disney films come to life in unique and surprising ways. Whether you’re a fan of classic and live-action Disney films, Disney-Pixar, Star Wars or Marvel, here are just some of the ways to become immersed in your favorite stories on your next Disney cruise vacation. Here are our five favorite ways Disney Cruise Line brings Disney films to life onboard.

Youth Spaces

On every Disney ship, there’s an entire deck of spaces designed to inspire and entertain your children! Disney’s Oceaneer Club will transport your kids to places like Andy’s Room inspired by “Toy Story” and Frozen Adventures themed to the “Frozen” films. Kids can even meet some of their favorite Marvel Super Heroes or join the rebel alliance and pilot the Millennium Falcon.

Restaurants

Mealtimes are memorable experiences on a Disney cruise! Aboard each ship, dinner at Animator’s Palate brings the magic of Disney animation into the dining room with scenes and characters from popular Disney and Disney-Pixar films. Experiences may include a visit from Crush, the sea turtle from “Finding Nemo,” a montage of food-themed moments from Disney films, or an animated show about a hero’s journey through Disney and Pixar animation.

At Tiana’s Place restaurant on the Disney Wonder, themed to “The Princess and the Frog,” you’ll enjoy live jazz music and delicious food that draws inspiration from the flavors and ingredients of the Louisiana bayou, plus special touches from the movie like family photos and water-lily-shaped candleholders. On the Disney Magic, dinner at Rapunzel’s Royal Table, inspired by “Tangled,” transports you to the kingdom of Corona to celebrate Rapunzel’s birthday and the anniversary of her return home. You can let your hair down and sing with Flynn Rider while you are eating a feast fit for royalty!

Musicals

You and your little ones can sing your hearts out to some of the most iconic songs from Disney films while watching our Broadway-style musicals. Shows like “Disney Dreams…An Enchanted Classic” and “The Golden Mickeys” feature favorite characters from Disney films, such as Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Tiana, Anna and Elsa, Cinderella, Ariel, Timon and Pumbaa.

On the Disney Wonder and the Disney Fantasy, you can experience “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular” and follow Anna and Elsa on their journey to discover the meaning of sisterhood. On the Disney Dream, you’ll be treated to an original production of “Beauty and the Beast,” inspired by the live action movie, and aboard the Disney Magic, you can sing along with Rapunzel in “Tangled: The Musical” and Cinderella in “Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story.”

Deck Parties

During every Disney cruise, your family can enjoy a lively celebration at one of our spectacular deck parties! On most itineraries, you can live the pirate’s life at our deck party inspired by “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Select cruises also offer a Pixar Pals celebration or a deck party themed to “Frozen” featuring the famous royal sisters of Arendelle and their fun-loving Nordic companions. And when you celebrate Star Wars Day at Sea or Marvel Day at Sea, you’ll be treated to an epic deck show featuring tons of characters from these films.

Character Encounters

Character encounters are a plenty on each and every Disney cruise! In addition to seeing beloved characters from your favorite Disney films in our youth spaces, dining rooms, stage shows and deck parties, scheduled meet-and-greets take place all throughout the voyage, both on board and on our private island, Castaway Cay.  These character sightings create lasting memories and fantastic photo opportunities for guests of all ages!

Top 5 Things to Do on a Very MerryTime Cruise

From the Disney Parks Blog:

Photo: Disney

After embarking recently on my first Very Merrytime cruise aboard the Disney Dream, let me tell you – I think I have found a new holiday tradition for my family! If you’re anything like me and will gladly trade in white snow for the white sand beaches of Castaway Cay, read below for the top five things to do on a Very MerryTime cruise when you book one of these special holiday sailings!

Photo: Disney

1. Mickey’s Tree-Lighting Magic

When you walk onto your Disney Cruise Line ship on day one, your eyes will likely be immediately drawn to the three-deck-tall Christmas tree in the atrium. And while there is garland and other décor filling every nook and cranny, you also may notice one more thing – the lights aren’t on! Once you’re sailing off into the sunset, however, many of your favorite Disney characters will join you to change all of that. With holiday music, stories from different cultures as told by crew members and special opportunities for kids to get involved, this tree-lighting ceremony is much more than just an opportunity to make these festive lights come to life!

Photo: Disney

2. Santa’s Winter Wonderland Ball

What’s a holiday cruise without Santa and Mrs. Claus? That’s right, usher in these very special guests on each Very Merrytime sailing at Santa’s Winter Wonderland Ball. This special holiday gathering featuring Broadway-style entertainment, classic holiday tunes, your favorite characters and even a little magical “snow” overtakes the atrium and is sure to leave each and every guest in the holiday spirit.

Photo: Disney

3. Characters in holiday attire

While your favorite Disney characters are at the center of Mickey’s Tree-Lighting Magic Ceremony and Santa’s Winter Wonderland Ball, be sure to check your Navigator App for meet-and-greet times all throughout your sailing. Whether it’s Mickey in his winter sweater, Pluto with antlers or Goofy in a full-fledged Santa suit, these pictures are sure to provide both precious memories and a spot on your family’s Christmas card!

Photo: Disney

4. Did someone say gingerbread?

Did you know that each Disney Cruise Line ship features a life-size gingerbread house in the atrium? Each year, all four ships in the fleet create a unique house (from scratch!) and compete against each other for the most creative and whimsical creation. And while the competition has become an annual rite of passage Disney Cruise Line, it also fills the atrium of each ship with the smell of fresh gingerbread. If you want to try your hand at your own creation, be sure to check out the gingerbread cookie decorating classes offered onboard! Unlike the one in the atrium – you can actually eat yours!

Photo: Disney

5. Castaway Cay

As I mentioned earlier, my favorite thing to do for the holidays is trade in white snow for the white sand beaches on Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line’s private island. But even though you may be in the Bahamas, this slice of paradise is decked for the holidays as well – with a tropical flair, of course! A massive Christmas tree, holiday island music and even “snow” flurries await your family, guaranteeing that the only “blue” you’ll be feeling this holiday season is the color of the crystal-clear waters!

The holiday season is in full swing, and so are Very Merrytime cruises! Whether you’re planning a holiday voyage for this year or next, leave me a message below with your personal favorite cruising memories or what you’re most looking forward to during these special holiday sailings!

Don’t forget, Disney Cruise Line sails out of ports all over the world, including Port Canaveral, Florida; Miami, Florida; Galveston, Texas, and more!

Top 5 Reasons to Book a Disney Cruise from Miami

From the Disney Parks Blog:

Photo: Disney

If you’ve already had the opportunity to enjoy a Disney Cruise Line vacation, then you probably don’t need a new reason to take a Disney cruise. And with Disney Cruise Line itineraries sailings from various ports around the world, it can be hard to find the best fit for your family. With the Disney Magic taking its talents to South Beach, I thought I would take some time to share five reasons why you should book a Disney cruise from Miami – and why your family will love it, too!

Photo: Disney

Miami – need we say more?

The vibrance and uniqueness of Miami warrants a visit to this city in and of itself! Whether you want to visit one of two national parks, shop on designer fashion or local boutiques, dine on the “Floribbean” cuisine or check out the famous beaches, there is no shortage of culture and things for your family to experience together before or after your cruise. Book a pre- or post- stay and treat yourself to a few extra days of vacation!

Photo: Disney

Disney Magic

One of the biggest reasons I like to sail out of Miami is the ship that resides in this port – the Disney Magic! I’m sure you know that this is the first ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, but did you know that it is home to unique offerings such as the AquaDunk (I dare you to take the plunge!), an exclusive Broadway-style show, “Tangled: The Musical,” and one of my favorite themed dining spaces, Rapunzel’s Royal Table? If you haven’t been onboard in a while, it’s time to get reacquainted with this classic ship!

Photo: Disney

Marvel Day at Sea

Do you have any Marvel fans in your family? If so, Miami is the port for you! From January through March in 2020, the Disney Magic will sail exclusively out of this city on special Marvel Day at Sea sailings. During one special day at sea, the ship will be taken over by the Marvel universe. Picture it now: learn how to be like Captain America, meet Spider-Man, journey into the mystic arts with Doctor Strange and end your day with an action-packed entertainment stage show complete with fireworks fitting of – well, a super hero!

Photo: Disney

Miami is easy to access from anywhere!

Miami is one of the most popular ports in America, and it’s easy to see why! The “Magic City” is an easy drive from anywhere within the state of Florida, and with a bustling international airport, this is an ideal port city whether you reside in or outside the Sunshine State!

Photo: Disney

Ports of Call

Cruises from Miami sail anywhere from three-night voyages to the Bahamas to five-night sailings to the Western Caribbean – or if you’re up for an extra-long vacation, a 12-night transatlantic voyage will take you all the way to Barcelona! And best of all, every voyage to the Bahamas and Caribbean makes a stop at Castaway Cay, my favorite island paradise reserved just for Disney Cruise Line guests. Save me a seat on Serenity Bay, will you?

Even though I don’t need a specific reason to enjoy a Disney cruise from Miami, I think these are five pretty good ones (and these are just the beginning)! Leave a comment below and let me know your favorite reason to sail from this city. I hope to see you on board a sailing soon!

5 Places to Find Dessert on the Disney Dream During Your Disney Cruise

From the Disney Parks Blog:

5 Places to Find Dessert on the Disney Dream During Your Disney Cruise

Cruising on the Disney Dream is a dream-come-true for anyone with a sweet tooth! Whether you take a three-, four- or five-night vacation aboard this Disney Cruise Line ship, you’ll have plenty of options for indulging in decadent desserts. You’ll need the energy for all the fun you’ll have on board, plus calories don’t count on vacation!

Check out the top five ways you can treat your sweet tooth with dessert on the Disney Dream…

1. Make a pit stop at Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats. Refuel at this dessert shop inspired by the arcade game from Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph.” Your family can celebrate your time aboard with a trophy filled with gelato or an ice cream sundae in a “Sugar Rush” racecar. If you can’t decide which ice cream flavor you want, Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats also has candy and baked treats to satisfy your cravings!

2. Cool down with an Eye Scream or Frozone treat. While you’re enjoying the sunshine up on deck, grab some soft-serve ice cream and scare-tastic toppings at Eye scream Treats. Named after the friendly, one-eyed monster Mike Wazowski from the Disney-Pixar animated feature “Monsters, Inc.,” this eatery has treats and a wide variety of flavors that will make you scream with joy! Or you can chill out with a cool Frozone refreshment by the pool. Inspired by the ice-creating hero from the Disney-Pixar movie “The Incredibles,” this poolside spot has refreshing, fruit smoothies for the entire family to enjoy.

3. Become a dessert connoisseur at Remy. Looking for more than an ice cream cone? Treat your taste buds to a five-course dessert menu served with coffee! The adult-exclusive Remy Dessert Experience features a rich dialogue with Remy’s Executive Chef and Pastry Chef, who will explain the history and evolution of each sweet selection. If you’re a dessert lover, this experience is perfect for you!

4. Save room for dessert at Palo’s brunch. Adults can indulge in a spectacular champagne brunch at Palo, which includes an all-you-care-to-eat buffet of international cheeses, made-to-order entrées, fresh pastries and, you guessed it, plenty of dessert! With tons of mini-sized desserts, you can treat your sweet tooth to a wide variety of flavors!

5. Brighten your day with dessert at Cabanas. Take a stroll along a beach boardwalk and grab a bite to eat at Cabanas. This restaurant offers guests a casual dining experience with food and beverage stations, breathtaking ocean views, and indoor and outdoor seating. Most importantly, it has a whole section dedicated to desserts like sundaes, cookies, cakes and fruit!

Top Five Tips for Sailing with Little Ones on Disney Cruise Line

From the Disney Parks Blog:

The thought of traveling with a little one can sometimes feel daunting, which is why so many parents with babies and toddlers choose a Disney cruise for their family’s vacation. Disney Cruise Line caters to all members of the family, and that includes even the youngest sailors.

If you’re setting sail with a child age 6 months to 3 years old, keep these tips for sailing with little ones on Disney Cruise Line in mind for smooth sailing during your family getaway…

Photo: Disney Parks Blog

1. Take advantage of all that’s included. Traveling with little ones on a Disney cruise is easier than ever with diaper disposal units, bottle warmers, bottle sterilizers, cribs, playpens and high chairs available complimentary for use during the voyage. Strollers are also available, but since there are a limited number, plan to bring your own – one that’s lightweight and foldable for ease of maneuvering and storing it on board. When you visit our private island, Castaway Cay, wagons are available at no charge to facilitate navigating the island’s sandy beaches with toddlers in tow. Most of these items are first-come, first-served, so be sure to add the request to your reservation before the cruise.

2. Reserve time in the nursery before you set sail. Inside “it’s a small world” nursery hosted by Huggies, trained counselors care for and entertain infants and toddlers up to age 3 with toys, books, videos, crafts and games. At the back of the nursery, a separate and serene room is reserved for naptime. The nursery offers some of the longest operating hours and some of the lowest hourly rates for baby and toddler care in the cruise industry, allowing you to enjoy time on your own. You can roam the ship “worry-free,” thanks to an onboard mobile phone service that allows counselors to contact you anytime and anywhere on the ship. And if you want to peek in on your child without disturbing him or her, you can glimpse into the nursery’s main play area through a one-way window.

3. Check the Navigator for special activities and play areas. Toddler Time is a scheduled playtime where parents can join the fun. You can also play with your little one at Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Lab during Open House. If you have a crawler, do not miss Jack-Jack’s Diaper Dash in the atrium. I repeat, do not miss it! And for water babies, each ship has a fanciful water playground exclusively for toddlers up to age 3—and their parents, of course!

4. Let us help you make mealtime easier. For babies, you can request fresh pureed vegetables and meat, both in the main dining rooms and through room service. When ordering off the kids’ menu, your server will be happy to cut up the food into bite-sized pieces for your little one. And when you’re grabbing a quick bite out on deck, ask a Crew Member to grab a highchair for you. These are just a few of the things you can do to take the stress out of mealtime for your whole family.

5. Don’t sweat it if you forget it. Essential baby supplies are available for purchase at the onboard merchandise shops, including diapers, training pants, rash cream, infant formula (ready to feed), bottles, pacifiers, baby food, baby shampoo, baby lotion and baby powder. We’ve got you covered!

11 Things to Do Before Your Disney Cruise Line Vacation

One of my favorite things about a Disney Cruise Line vacation is that it doesn’t require months and months of advance planning like a Walt Disney World Resort vacation. You don’t have to schedule your dining reservations 180 days in advance or any FastPasses 60 days in advance. A Disney cruise offers both a less stressful planning experience ahead of time and more relaxing vacation while you’re away enjoying your vacation. Although you don’t have to spend hours preparing for a Disney Cruise Line vacation, there are a few things that you can take care of in advance to make your vacation even better!

Here are 11 things to do before your Disney cruise:

  1. Online Check In: As soon as your booking window (determined by your Castaway Club status) opens, you should complete online check in. This provides Disney with all of your important information and in turn, allows you to choose how early you would like to arrive at the port. If you are not taking Disney transportation to the airport, this will get you on the ship as quickly as possible by choosing the earliest time available.
  2. Book Port Excursions: If you are planning to participate in any excursions during your cruise, you can book them in advance, as well. Some of the most popular excursions do fill up before the sailing so booking them as soon as your window opens insures the best availability for you to choose your favorite excursions. There’s also a desk onboard that can help you make changes or book excursions during your vacation, if necessary.
  3. Book Onboard Experiences: There aren’t too many activities that need to be booked in advance for a Disney cruise, but there are a couple character experiences (Frozen Meet and Greet and/or Princess Gathering), beverage tastings, Disney Junior character breakfast (for minimum seven night sailings), speciality dining, and spa treatments that can be reserved in advance. If you forget to book these in advance, they can be booked onboard as well, pending availability.
  4. Choose your Dining Time: Disney Cruise Line offers two dining times, either 5:45 pm or 8:!5 pm which also determines your evening show times and even breakfast on the last morning of your cruise. When you book your cruise, you will have the opportunity to choose (pending availability) your preferred dining time. If main dining is full, you can always waitlist it or even ask to change after you board if you are unable to secure it in advance.
  5. Schedule Character Call: You can schedule a complimentary pre-recorded character call from either Mickey Mouse, Goofy, or Mickey and Minnie. This is a fun way to either tell your kids about your upcoming vacation or get them even more excited to go!
  6. Passports: Although passports are not required for some cruises, they are still strongly recommended. If you’re planning to purchase a passport for your cruise, be sure to order it far enough in advance to avoid any rush fees. If you already have a passport, just double check to make sure that it will still be valid for your sailing (and preferably at least six months afterwards).
  7. Transfers: Whether you are purchasing Disney Cruise Line transfers, parking at the port, or purchasing private transfers, you will want to arrange in advance how you’ll be getting to and from the port.
  8. Join your Cruise group on Facebook: Almost every sailing has a group on Facebook where you can connect with fellow cruisers. The biggest advantage to joining these groups is if you’d like to participate in a fish extender (gift exchange) with your fellow passengers. It can also be nice to find fellow cruisers with kids around the same age, if you have any that are apprehensive about going to the kids clubs onboard.
  9. Download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App: You will want to download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app before you board the ship, if possible. Disney is eliminating the practice of leaving a paper copy of your Personal Navigator in your stateroom each evening so you’ll need to use the app to find out all of the activities planned onboard each day of your sailing. Plus, they have a fun countdown app that will help pass the time while you wait for your vacation.
  10. Prepay Gratuities: You can prepay your gratuities with your cruise fare so you won’t have to worry about them onboard. If you do not prepay your gratuities, Disney will automatically add them to your onboard account. It is nice to have them prepaid so you can only worry about spending money on souvenirs during your vacation.
  11. Purchase a Photo Package: If you’re interested in having any of the pictures taken onboard or at Castaway Cay, you will want to purchase a photo package in advance to take advantage of a pre-cruise discount. One big difference if you’re used to Disney PhotoPass photographers in the parks is that the cruise photographers are not able to take a picture on your device in addition to theirs.

Next, it’s time to start packing for your Disney cruise! What do you think are the most important things to do before your Disney cruise?
