New Kakamora Chaos with Moana Experience at Aulani, a Disney Resort in Hawaii

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Moana’s travels take her to many exciting destinations – and one of her favorites is Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa. Starting today, guests can visit with the Disney heroine during a new premium experience!

During “Kakamora Chaos with Moana” at Aunty’s Beach House, Moana is eager to learn more about her new friends, especially the games they play. During the interactive 90-minute experience, young guests will learn to play children’s games from Hawai‘i, as well as a game from Moana’s home island of Motunui: the Kakamora Relay!*

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

There are other fun ways to see Moana during her visits to Aulani Resort. Guests can join Moana and Aulani Resort’s beloved storyteller “Uncle” as they share the importance of the canoe—or wa‘a—during Kahakai Canoe Racing. The interactive activity concludes after building a canoe model and racing in the lagoon!

In the evenings, resort guests may choose to wind down around the fire pit as Moana and Uncle recount tales of adventure during Mo‘olelo Firepit Storytelling. Guests attending the the resort’s KA WA‘A lū‘au will also be delighted when Moana makes a special appearance during the lively pre-show, which pays homage to the incredible journey the Hawaiian people made across the ocean.

*Advance reservations for Kakamora Chaos with Moana are strongly recommended. Please call the Reservation Center at (808) 674-6200. This premium experience is available at an additional charge.

Enjoy Authentic Hawaiian Arts and Crafts at Aulani’s Ka Wa’a Luau

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

One of my favorite parts of KA WA‘A lu‘au at Aulani Resort actually happens before the show. When guests arrive for the luau, they will be greeted by hosts and hostesses with a special lei. Then, guests will be encouraged to mingle around the resort’s Halawai Lawn as live music and performers set the tone for the evening. Also available during this time are various traditional arts and crafts at Aulani’s Ka Wa’a luau for guests to not only observe, but also participate.

(Photo: Disney Parks Blog)

Be sure to check out the following Hawaiian arts and crafts at Aulani’s Ka Wa’a Luau:

Na Pua U‘i (The Pretty Flowers): You’ll learn the traditional art of stringing lei (or flower garlands) together, creating your very own to adorn your neck or wrist. Or, you can present the lei as a special token of aloha to a loved one.

Pa‘i ‘Ai (Pounded Taro): After observing the traditional mashing of cooked taro into a thick paste called pa‘i ‘ai, join in and experience the effort it takes to make poi the traditional way.

Kapala (Printing): Intricately carved bamboo stamps called ‘ohe kapala were traditionally used to decorate and embellish fine kapa (bark cloth). Create your own keepsake on a card using stamps inspired by traditional patterns of nature.

Kakau (Tattooing): Pick a kakau design and have a local artisan draw by hand on your arms, legs or even face! You’ll experience a contemporary take on the painstaking age-old practice of a traditional body art.

KA WA‘A lu‘au is offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings at Aulani Resort. What activities are you looking forward to experiencing?

Experience a New Luau at Aulani and Meet Moana Beginning in November

As Hawaii’s top family beach resort celebrates its 5th anniversary this year, Disney recently announced new guest experiences that will debut later this year at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa! You will have the opportunity to experience a new luau at Aulani and even meet Moana from Disney’s upcoming film “Moana” beginning in November.

Starting in November, KA WA‘A, a luau at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa will bring epicurean dining and imaginative entertainment to guests. Luau guests can feast on a sumptuous, local island buffet, and enjoy lively music and traditional Hawaiian dance, including hula kahiko and modern hula ‘auana. Before the luau, you will have the opportunity to enjoy special pre-show entertainment, family activities, traditional crafts and more.

MOANA is an adventurous, tenacious and compassionate 16-year-old who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. Along the way, she discovers the one thing she's always sought: her own identity. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker ("The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," "The Princess & the Frog") and featuring newcomer Auli‘i Cravalho as the voice of Moana, Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Moana" sails into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016. ©2016 Disney. Also in November, Moana, from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film “Moana,” will arrive at Aulani Resort to meet with guests and recount tales of adventure. The animated feature film is about an adventurous teenager who, with help from demigod Maui, sails out on a canoe for a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and save her people.

Both new experiences are inspired by Hawaii’s deep cultural roots in canoe exploration—a voyage which brought Hawaiian ancestors to the beautiful ‘Ewa Loa plains surrounding Aulani Resort. As you may have seen in Aulani Resort Ambassador Janelle’s post from earlier today, we also debuted a one-sixth model of the Polynesian voyaging canoe—the Hokule‘a—in the Maka‘ala Lobby.

Top 5 Hawaiian Words to Know for Your Family’s Hawaiian Vacation

Aloha! Are you planning a Hawaiian vacation or would you like to? There is a beautiful Disney Resort and Spa in Hawaii called Aulani. Aulani is in Ko Olina on the island of Oahu. If you are visiting the Hawaiian islands, it’s a good idea to learn the top 5 Hawaiian words to know before your family’s vacation!

The Aulani Cultural Advisor, Kahulu De Santos, has recommend the five most useful expressions that every Aulani guest should know.

1. Aloha – “Hello”

mickey and minnie at aulani splash pad

Aloha is the Hawaiian word that you will use most during a visit to Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa or any Hawaiian island. From the moment you arrive, the spirit of aloha is alive in every cast member interaction. The cool thing about this Hawaiian word is that it also can mean “goodbye.” So, aloha can be used to both begin and end a conversation!

2. E komo mai – “Welcome”

lei welcome at aulani

Just as Walt Disney said when Disneyland park was dedicated, “To all who come to this happy place: Welcome,” a welcoming spirit is the foundation for all Disney Parks & Resorts. Aulani is no exception and a truly beautiful example of that spirit.

3. ‘Ohana – “Family”

family surfing at aulani

If you have seen Lilo and Stitch, this one may already be familiar to you! There is a plethora of activities available for your entire family to enjoy at Aulani. A few guest favorites include Disney Family Fun Animation, ‘Ohana Hula and of course, the Aulani Starlit Hui.

4. Keiki – “Child” or “Children”

auntys beach house 1

Disney Characters, Aunty’s Beach House and Keiki Cove are just three of the options available for your kids, or keiki (pronounced kay-key), to enjoy during your vacation at Aulani. Even as keiki grow older, there are daily tween and teen activities that allow every member of your ‘ohana (family) to meet new friends and take home treasured experiences.

5. Mahalo – “Thank You”

chip and dale at aulani

Mahalo is another Hawaiian word that is used frequently during visits. Cast members at Aulani often thank guests for visiting Aulani by saying, “Mahalo!”

Hopefully these expressions help you and your ‘ohana feel at home during your Aulani vacation!
